Or as has been suggested several times, tap a new thread one size larger and put a new bolt in. 5 minute job.
Edit: epic page refresh fail.

Yeah I got a bunch lying around, which one do you want?
-
• #29
I don't own a tap. Cheapest I can find them online gives me £9.70 for an M6 tap and adjustable tap wrench. This already exceeds the cost of the Look expander and would leave me with the inferior design I already have

I'm just being facetious :)

Fuck it. Ordered the Look expander from JeJames. If it doesn't work I'll just return it

Or just drill a few holes through the seat tube and the seatpost and use a peg to hold it in place.

Sorry for my late reply, I can't really use internet during the day and I'm quite busy at the moment.
Roughly the expander is 25mm long.
You've ordered it already I suppose they sell the 2 parts together?
I'm based in E14, you could have had a look at mine, but I understand, you want to sort it out quickly ;-) -
• #35
Don't know for sure but it must be both pieces. Like someone said; it wouldn't make sense for them to sell only one side. The current project thread I linked also said they got the expander from JeJames, so it must be the one I ordered I think
Is your exander a friction fit to the bore in the seattube? Thanks for the info anyway! Been very helpful

I've got two more pictures, don't really know what do you mean.

Yeah sorry I wasnt entirely clear. My expander is 16mm diameter, yours is 14mm. Mine is a very tight fit from simply placing it into the frame. Could you measure the diameter of the hole your expander fits into please?
I'm wondering if the 2mm difference between the expander my frame came with and the one on the way will make a difference
-
• #38
The diameter of the hole is about the same as the diameter of the expander.
The 2mm might be a problem indeed, when I tighten up the screw at the max, the expander can ''expand'' around 1mm or so. The expander might be too loose inside even tighten up to the maximum.

I'll have to see when it arrives. I can always coke can shim if its an issue
-
• #40
So you dont want to drill through and use a nut but 2mm on coke shims is a better solution? Probably will need to file the look clamp to shape unles this frame also uses a 25mm post.
-
• #41
Contrary to what I wanted, the Look clamp didn't work. The diameter was too small for coke can shims to work, I tried but after 6-7 layers of shim it still was loose in the frame.
The original bolt was long enough to screw a nut into it, so this fix didn't actually cost me anything. I'm going to look into making myself a new expander in the style of the look one as I'm not happy with how this one clamps.
Anyway, it lives and here it is:

Thread name change as I realised I've ended up with two British steel frames and two Polish steel frames. Biggest priority is this currently, which I've been spamming threads on here about, trying to work out sram road/mtb 10 speed compatibility
Got an 11-36 and chain on the way to complete the groupset, as well as some nice flared bars for gravel gnar. Long term upgrades will be Thomson post/seatclamp and tester spacer because the diameter of the current one doesn't match. Shitty reused lizard skins may become some camo tape if I think I can get away with it without it looking shite.
Second bit of polish steel currently looks like this
which is heavy and shit, so I'm desperate to turn back into this but with risers
Which led me to buying this. Which I was hoping to laden with the rack and beater spec from the rychtarski, but sadly my LBS are busy for summer and haven't got round to getting the post out yet
If all goes to plan I'll have two Max tracks (Harry Hall/Rych), Zona Orlo cross bike and an 853 Argos beater

Sell me that Rychtarski....
That Orlo is so so nice. Thought you had risers on it last?
-
• #44
The Orlowski is swoosh! Is that a freewheel or are you currently running fixed on it?
-
• #45
Yep had risers and hydraulics. Check the pedalroom for previous setup. That was only temporary while I gathered funds for the sram groupset
Rychtarski will never be sold unfortunately
-
• #46
Freewheel with spacer set on a cassette hub (bitex). Derailleur is just clamped on for effect
-
• #47
With regards to seat post clamp. Is that same as the brother track bike (swift?)
-
• #48
^ couldnt find an example of what you mean?
The Orlo is now so close to being done and rides incredibly well. Planning two rides for it next week, one to Brighton and one to Hampshire. May also hit up epping but might have to stick some knobblies on
Once the finishing kit is complete I'll try get some proper photos taken. @PhilDAS still up for it?
-
• #49
Oh yeah haha sure

....and I will never stop asking.
Are you telling me that there are no bike kitchen or maker spaces around with tools available to use? Or one man machine shop that could crank this out?
