  • Ha. No worries and cheers! Yeah you've got a 970 and a dual core i5 xxxxU right?

  • I miss the 17".

  • My love has for my new MBP has diminished somewhat since the fucking cat started to chew the corner and left a little dent in the bezel. Little fucker.

  • Anyone know how to make an executable bash script not require my password every time I run it by double clicking the icon?

The VPN software I use has a habit of breaking my internet when I disconnect, which is easily solved by going to the control panel and renewing the DHCP lease.

Ain't nobody got time for that though, so I wrote a bash script to do it and made it executable using chmod.

Only problem is that it has a sudo command in it so I have to enter my password which makes it easier to renew the DHCP lease via the control panel - i.e. makes it pointless!

Any ideas? Can I make finder run it as a superuser by default?

  • Is this 14 day free MacBook Pro hire available at any retailer or only Apple Stores?

I have a 5 day project and 50/50 on buying one for keeps. I'm interested to see how much home use it would get.

Much easier for me to get to a Currys/PC World though, but I would only want to get it if it could be returned with the understanding that it'd be properly used in the meantime.

  • Buy online, collect in store. 30 day return is then guaranteed as long as the machine is still as new condition.

  • Bit does 'as new' not mean no use, and no software installed? Factory reset/format before return, I suppose.

  • Are you sure it's 30 days? When I bought mine and there was an actual problem, they told me I actually have 14 days.

  • I doubt they check that closely. I wouldn't go to currys, it's always been hard for me to return stuff with them even when it really is change of mind.

Yes just factory reset and you will be fine, obviously cosmetically it needs to be sound.

  • That's why I said online. If you buy in store then the returns policy is down to them. If you buy online you have a 30 day cooling off that's part of the distance selling regs

  • 15", 2.8ghz i7, 16gb, 256gb in space grey bought in store.

Now just need to resist the urge to keep it! Should be okay because work should confirm that they're buying one for me next week, but still...

  • But I was referring to online. They told me 14 days...

  • Day 14, return it an said you want a different specs, then the clock starts again... it'd take a while before they catch you out. ;-)

  • You're right. I was sure it was 30 but looks like the law changed 3 years ago when distance selling regs were replaced with another act. Now the minimum is 14, used to be 30

(It's still 30 if it's faulty. Entitled to a full refund in that time)

  • 14 days, takes few mins to reset to factory, i had a routine.

  • It wasn't meant to be an argument with you by the way, just that if you go back a few pages, you will see my recent experience with Apple, I bought a Mac online, custom specs and it has a dent on it bottom casing (packaging and boxes all fine), even then, they only gave me 14 days.

  • I'm enjoying my MBP.

  • No worries, didn't assume any argument. I'd thought it might be a shop trying it on and just didn't know the law changed a few years ago.

Sounds like you got a bum deal on the dented mbp though, looked like it should have been 30 days in that instance regardless of store policy

  • My MBP got knocked off a table at work while I was out of the room, screen fucked, $300 repair... Furious...

Boss is gonna try and sort me out but FUUUUUUUUUUUU!?!?!?!

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUU indeed. How did it get knocked off?!

In better news, mine arrives today... wahoooooo

  • Went and had a play yesterday in the store. They're very shiny and thin.

  • Not sure I'd feel safe bringing one to a set though. Desktop and cafes sure but taking one on set or location where it's going to get bashed about... Actually, reading slain's post makes it clear they're not safe in offices either.

  • Three weeks ago I took my camera and my laptop in to do some work, I finished with them by lunchtime so packed them into my bag and stowed it away in the staff room... Came back at the end of the day and found bag in the middle of the room, it looked like it'd been knocked off the shelf it was on then kicked around... The viewfinder on my GF1 was half out of its mount...

    I clearly didn't learn my lesson... 😪

It's sad, I'm doing them a favour bringing my own stuff in... Never again... Unfortunately it's my clients that will suffer and not the organisation I work for, they couldn't give a fuck...

  • straya etc

Between strayans and spiders I don't know why you bothered.

Cornwall's got beaches, sun and takes about the same time to get to London.

  • There are times I wonder the same thing... 😐
