  • My phone has completely died so I just ordered a oneplus 5 as a replacement on their early bird thing; it looks ok, like they've nicked the iphone shape and painted it black basically.

The code to get one early is 'Clearer Photos' in case anyone was wondering.

  • One thing that's just occured to me though... I guess I'll need to sign into my google account on it when it arrives. But that's protected via a text message to my phone, which is broken - so I currently can't sign into anything.

There might be some swearing coming up when it arrives.. .

  • If that's standard Google 2FA then you should have/be able to find in the account settings some printable one-use codes for moments like that.

  • But I'd have to log into my account to get that right (I'm currently signed out of everything :)) ?
It might not be that complicated actually, I guess I can move my current sim into an old phone to get the text message.

  • I think the app Authy helps with these scenarios. Not much help now but maybe worth looking into. @Velocio recommended it before, don't know if he has changed his mind but he is clued up in these matters.

  • Yep, just move your sim into the new phone and it will get the message.

  • Thanks - I'll look into that once I'm up and running again.

@Aggi - oh yeah. I'll have a new phone that works. I'm an idiot. Thanks :)

  • I was holding out for oneplus 5, its out now but the reviews say camera is meh .. thats the main reason I wanted to switch phone (currently on Wileyfox Swift 1st gen). The camera issues in the phone are mainly firmware IMO, are oneplus good at revisiting and making changes like Fuji or Wahoo?

If you go by reviews Pixel has the best camera but its mad pricey and kinda old now. y u do dis oneplus!?

  • Authy is great, and it's best to install it as your 2FA code generator long before you need it.

It does the same job as Google Authenticator, except it additionally has an account and can allow you to back up your authenticator codes so that they can all be restored to a new device with minimal fuss and without having to deactive and reactivate each account.

You just get a new device, sign in to Authy, and your codes are all there.

I still use it, it's great and provides peace of mind that if I lost my phone or it irrevocably died I'd still get into all my accounts once I had a new device.

  • Top tip. If you use lastpass to back up your authy password and authy for 2FA for lastpass, make sure you have access to lastpass before upgrading your phone.

I had a bit of panic when I upgraded my phone, went to lastpass on my laptop to get the authy backup password and it came up with the provide 2FA for Lastpass to log in.

  • Some help please. This morning when my partner turned on her phone she got a message from the 'Android Anti Virus Centre' saying that she had a virus and to download 'MJJVMMY.net' to clear it. She didn't presuming that this it is itself is malware/spam. I agree but can anyone a) confirm our suspicions and b) suggest something official I can get from the Play Store that I can use to remove/block it

  • Android Anti Virus Centre

Looks like its browser based rather than an app, removal tips here

  • I think you recently switch to Wahoo? If so I'd wait a little before switching to ensure the Bluetooh on the OP5 will be stable/good.

I've recently gone from iPhone to OP3T and the Bluetooth is terrible. Currently not working at all with the latest firmware update and I can't change any of my Bolt's settings ...

  • Thanks for that.

  • Does anyone give a fuck about ethics? https://shop.fairphone.com/en/

  • My gf has one of those. The case fell apart, the battery died twice and the camera stopped focusing properly, and in the end she got sent a new one.

All well and good building a phone that can be repaired, but if you go through three of all the components in the lifespan of a normal phone I'm not sure it's working out as intended, aside from the ethical sourcing of the precious metals.

  • Not at that price. The specs are for a 3 year-old phone but at the same price as something like the Oneplus 5

  • I thought that would probably be the answer. I'm not being judgmental - I have a Samsung phone - but I would like my next handset to be as ethical as possible without being a dog. Does OnePlus have ethical chops? Couldn't see them on this chart, which may also be bullshit IDK...

  • OnePlus is a Chinese company so will be about as ethical as a country that doesn't believe in copyright laws.

  • the only real 'ethical' phone is the Fairphone, mostly because they use conflict-free and sustainable materials.

  • My wife has a Fairfone... It did have problems with random powering down... had it replaced and the new one has been good as (ethically sourced) gold!

  • about as ethical as a country that doesn't believe in copyright laws

    That actually sounds incredibly ethical.

  • So it turns out just popping into a high Street phone shop to pick up a phone is more difficult then I would have imagined. First issue is trying to get anyone to help or even take notice of you, yes Carphone warehouse 4 shops not one person asked if I needed help. Finally found a 3 mobile shop with phone I wanted but it wasn't in stock nor were the two other budget phones. Surprisingly they had the Samsung G8 and the latest iPhone. There advice try online....and they wonder why the high street is dying. Rant over

  • Is it the copyright that sounds unethical or overly powerful/restrictive/long lasting copyright that annoys you?

  • On my moto play, is there any way to trick the phone to think it's not on hotspot?

I've got unlimited data, but only 30gb on hotspot.
