  • yeah the ST is relatively short so I have a lot of post showing - it's a pretty aggressive position in the drops

  • Good seeing track side last weekend dude! Seems like a while now due to the shitty weather we are having this week!

  • Morning kids.

I just pulled the trigger on a Cinelli/Mash Work on the cycle scheme. V excited. I don't think it comes with a brake - can anyone recommend a caliper that works well? I see a lot of people using cantilever brakes but I'm not a huge fan of those.

  • braks shmaks

  • BrakeRdeath

    Get V brakes

  • yeah, I've got a XT vbrake on mine, works well with a CX lever.

You'd need a caliper with a very long drop.

  • Standard long drop as far as I can tell. Don't know why you wouldn't just use v brakes though

  • Don't know why you wouldn't just use v brakes though

I had a set on my last Charge Plug and they just didn't seem to work as well as a standard caliper. Maybe I just got a crap pair

EDIT: think I've been working under a misapprehension. I thought cantis and mini vs were the same. I also didn't realise the frame had specific mini v holes. I'll mini v it.

    Appreciate the steer, cheers all

  • Have you got the screw in adapter thingys? Tekro mini Vs work great btw

  • No! I don't have the frame yet so not 100% sure how this is going to work. I'm just trying to pull all the sundries I'll need before then. Good shout on the Tektro Mini Vs.

So will I need adapters for them? I thought mini Vs would just plug into the Work frame?

  • If you've bought the frame new from somewhere you'll get a bag with the canti studs in it to fit too the frame.

You won't need any adapter to fit the Vs/mini Vs. the only other thing to think about it the type of leaver your going to use, if your using road bike leavers you'll need a 'travel agent' due to the different cable pull of the Vs.

I have these on my nature boy and they work well

  • Awesome, really clear. Thanks dude. It is from new so should be OK on that point.

I know it sounds a bit daft to ask these kinds of questions but without the frame in front of me I'm finding it hard to figure out.

I guess the only reason not to use Mini Vs is if I wanted to use a porteur rack. But I don't have any plans for that atm.

  • No problem, when I got mine I wasn't sure what was going to turn up either. Have you got the 2016 or 2017 model ?

There are a few issues regard crank clearance on the 2016 models depending on which chainset / BB your using, it was sorted out in the 2017 version.

  • Aah cool. It's the 2017 version I've ordered - this one https://www.cyclesolutions.co.uk/p101889/cinelli-mash-work--2017-road-bike - has some cheap components on it but it should be fine to start off with.

  • Can anyone tell me where this part goes? It's from the included Columbus headset of an older Histogram.
I assumed that it's just a spacer and left it out (also because everything seemed to fit) but since my headtube makes cracking noises sometimes I want to hope it's because of this ring missing.

  • On top of the compression ring to stop the topcap bottoming out would be my guess.

  • yep sits in between bearing cover and compression ring. Some bikes need one or two to get proper bearing preload, so your bearings may be overloaded. Not fatal but fix it sooner rather than later

  • if its not there and you need it, then your top cap will bottom out on the steerer, and you will have definitely noticed.

  • Not sure what you guys mean by bottoming out because I cut the steerer a fair amount shorter than the spacer so there is no chance that the top cap bottoms out.
But you're saying that the ring goes in there?

  • Conical spacer might rub on frame without it. This means the bearing preload is bottomed out before its at its ideal

  • That was the case the first day after I built it up so I had to file the steerer down a bit to fit the fork tight.
Anyway, I put the silver ring right where the red arrow points at (between compression ring and cover). Hope the cracking head tube is fixed.

  • Put some new tyres on my Cinelli MASH Bolt yesterday - 28c is about as big as I can go. Comfy!

  • I think we have the same size--and the same dent! Very nice build, looks good with the gumwalls

  • Does the Bolt come with a different fork than the 2014 Histo?
Because clearance on mine is as tight as yours with 25mm GP4000S2.

Cracking seems to be gone now that I fitted in the spacer ring. Really odd because the spacer was just about 0.5mm thick. Could be coincidence though

  • Mine's a 58cm, which I think is a size large. I was on your thread the other day actually - unfortunate! I've got dents on both sides, once from a driver cutting across when I was waiting to turn right & hitting me head on (SMIDSY, pfft) & another while slipping in cleats coming out of a takeaway. Still fine though.

Thanks. Am currently umming/ahhing about getting a Thomson X2 stem, but then I think I might have the most generic MASH build ever.
