  • I'm not being very helpful today. I'll stop.

  • Cant move past that. If I use a pressing tool the delrin sleeve buckles.

  • Yup. I've very barely managed with some welded Salsa-style stems + coin method + 45min of cursing, but the last time the lady friend and I tried to get a pair onto a forged quill for her tourer we bent the clamp badly and it wouldn't close again.

Turns out it was a 25.4 clamp but I'd nonetheless be a bit worried about getting compacts onto proper quills.

  • "the lady friend and I tried to get a pair onto a forged quill"

    euphemism?

  • Very complex maneuver right there.

  • Too lame. I had the same issues with the adapter i went with from the start. LBS installed the plastic threaded adapter instead. But will probably be looking at alternatives later on.

  • That sucks :(

  • I got piegas in a 25.4 pearl. Anything is possible if you set your mind to it

  • Shimano chain/cassette in a sram MTB rear mech a-okay? 10 speed all round

  • Nah man! I live in Birmingham

  • Yeah I know that, I seen your other bike on KH high st before. Wood gate valley is other side of harbourne!!

  • Oh yeah word. Nah man it's somewhere in Yardley wood, just off the canal!

  • Oh ok. Bike looks spot on anyway 👍🏻

  • Yep that should be fine.

  • yea I guess it's one of those things where I wouldn't be too surprised if it worked, but also wouldn't be too surprised if the stem or bars wound up pretty busted up.

  • I know, right? She's a keeper!

  • Anyone else had difficulty getting a quill stem round the bend on compact drops? It's driving me bananas!
have had no joy with the penny method so far

    it's all about the angle

  • Nearly Neo Nearly Retro Rush Budget Build - Look KG243

I was going to start a separate thread for this, but in the end it was started and finished before I got around to it, as it had to be ready for a (taller than me) friend to use for l’Ardechoise last Friday.
So a quick summary here instead…

Look KG243 frame (1998/9?), bought a couple of years ago on leboncoin here in France.
Plenty of paint chips, someone appears to have removed a strip of paint along the top tube, and there’s a tiny ding on the inside of one of the seat stays. Lovely frame still.

  • Gritty old headset, seized stem extender and carbon forks removed.
Hard work and involved lots of swearing.

  • Been keeping an eye out on and off for some original Look chrome forks, but not found any as yet, so finally went with BLB ones, courtsey of @MCamb.
Originally cut them down to fit a nice Record headset I had, but found the threads didn’t match, so went with a less glamorous old 105 headset. In case I change again later I didn’t cut them down again for the shorter stack height of the 105 headset, but added a filed-down spacer instead.
