Genuinely think the sport is still suffering a hangover from his tenure. Wonder what went through Lance's mind when he heard the news.

Kohl, Mitterand, Thatcher - feels like another world.

I have to confess to being surprised by this, as I thought Helmut Kohl died some time ago.

The voice of my childhood. Strangely gutted that he's dead.

A little DuckDuckGo revealed that BC was born and educated in Ipswich.
The Wikipedia citation of this is to an edition of a local magazine that featured an obituary to a former teacher of BC who, as well as being responsible for the school's reputation for drama (eg Peter Nunn), was also noted (by those who knew him) for his measured tone and cadence, which is what I remember most of BC.
I remember that teacher with great fondness, having shared more than a little Mild with him and weaving back from the pub, him pointing out the hidden architectural gems of the town.

Trumpton was the absolute bollocks and the best thing on TV. I'd sit and listen to Brian's voice and be transported. Later I discovered he supported Ipswich and a part of me died.

In the early days of late night tv (so some point in the early/mid 90s), I remember seeing him being interviewed on one of the trash TV shows they were churning out. He didn't like the interviewer much and swore at him. And I was like "Brian Cant just said 'Fuck off'?!"
^ Since Life on Mars, I can never see that without thinking about...

Wrong kind of cancer.
