Jeez mate. What an idiot. So sorry for you.
Did the police do anything with the cyclist. Do you have his details? I'd be trying to claim against him.

The police arrived around 11.20. The "accident" happened at 8.50 and the paramedic arrived at 9.20 and left with both cyclists at 9.30, so they were long gone.
I have the details of the cyclist (and his dad who worked around the corer), 4 witnesses, a site manager for the building site (where there are possible cameras) and the other cyclist who was hit.
I've just spoken with the dealer and i wont have a full damage estimate until early next week but it's not looking good. At least £3.5k in parts alone (ex labour) and possible frame damage (which equals write off).
I'm almost certain a court case will be required to reclaim the money.

ah man, what a shitter.

If the cyclist has home insurance that often has a 3rd party liability part. I have successfully claimed against a padestian (through a solicitor) when I was knocked off. I did have cctv and it was clear cut.
Gutted for you, so crap.

• #9907
yes, i'd be tempted to have a year off (having had my bike stolen, thats what i'm doing, I'm too paranoid about theft at the moment).
-
• #9908
Would you recommend the solicitor?
Might be needing one...
-
• #9909
They lady I had was good, but she left, the rest were are crap as the rest until I put a poker up there arse.
Might be worth googling for motorbike recommended solicitors, or asking on a message board. Many people will have sadly been in the same situation.

Oh no soul, sorry to hear that. Hang in there. The main thing is you're still with us and can at some point, maybe a long time from now laugh at how this bad spell of luck played out. Stay strong.
-
• #9911
Sorry to hear that Soul. Heal up quick, at least you're out of hospital.
-
• #9912
That does suck. Get down there and have a look around - are there any offices/shops that may have CCTV? That could help your case.
Hope you're ok.
-
• #9913
That bloody sucks mate, glad you're not too damaged though, that really is the main thing.
-
• #9914
Mate that really, really sucks.
At least you have his details so have a good shot at claiming for the damage (I'm still bitter about the guy who gave me fake details).
As n3il said maybe take a break for a bit. Or get a cheap ratty pitbike in the 250-500cc range that you don't care about. That way you don't run the risk of losing your confidence.
Best of luck with everything and hope you get better soon.

Looking for some spring / summer / fall gloves,
No gloves will cover that range. The best bet is to buy two pairs, and some silk glove liners from ebay.
In this weather you need short cuff leather gloves to stay comfortable. So buy some now and once it's too cold to wear buy some warmer ones. The good thing is short summer gloves cost less. So buy one decent pair that fit you well and keep them.
I have the dainese mig, which I rate - although I'd like more protection.
The rest of the time I have some long cuff Held gloves that are discontinued. I chose them because they had knox scaphoid protection.... and Held are pretty good value. After seeing how badly scratched they were from a small off, I would always try and find something with scaphoid protection.
IMO the only reason to wear light shortie gloves is because its so hot the other choice is no gloves.

Thanks all for the kind words.
The issue of getting up and riding again isn't a confidence one. It's that no matter how well I treat my property and obey the rules, there's always some other cunt who ruins it.
- Bike knocked over - parked well within the confines of a motorbike bay. Van drives past, sends it flying and doesn't stop
- Bike stolen - parked in a bike bay 10m from a busy pub. Stolen by two kids on a scooter with the alarm blaring. Nothing done
- Bike crashed - doing 15-20 in a 20mph zone. Kid runs a red light and nothing I can do

This is why I don't even bother trying to have nice things.
Get a dirt cheap er5 or something, anything that might break if it falls/gets knocked over will cost like a fiver to replace and what it lacks in performance will be made up in you not having to give two craps about thrashing it around the place.

Yea i just got these for the good weather
will use old gloves when it's colder or rains and buy some new ones when in the fall or something.

Same experience here, over a longer period of time though which helps a bit. That's why I can't bring myself to change bikes from the R80/7 and SH300 which are both ratty sleeper looks. I'd love to have something newer with bells and whistles but last time I did that it got nicked.
It's a shame that the only bikes that survive in London are the ones that no one else wants and are already cosmetically a mess. Basically what M_V said, give up having nice things on the street.

Sadly can't do anything other than agree. My only new, shiny bike got nicked inside a year in the middle of the day, right by a busy pub with the alarm blaring. Next one was the same model, but with a dented tank, cracked panels and rattle canned flat black, never touched until I sold it.

Sorry for your loss @soul , this is the main reason I run a average looking cb500 - not really worth much effort to steal, quick and reliable enough to enjoy, rides good - not much to break if you drop it. You've really had a run of bad luck, they do say it comes in threes though. Hope the knee heals up and you don't give up!

Nice!
Looks tiny though, doubt I'd fit in the seat, and if I did I couldn't contort my legs onto the pegs! -

Casually browsing the Honda range online this morning and the wife starts asking me if I am thinking about buying one.
I bring up the CB650f (basically the current Hornet) and show her, she sees the price (£6500 ish) and says "is that all? Bikes are cheap" I had a look at used ones, which are in the £5000-6200 range, to which she says I might as well just buy a new one. I think the heat must have addled her brain.
A couple of pics for you all...
