  • Can anyone tell me who makes that bar bag?

  • Come on @amey, you know a straight bladed fork can still have plenty of offset.

  • ugh .. one time I want to slip like scoble and you wont let me get away with that

  • Its like @Alb has joined Pinnacle

  • 😉 @amey

  • Yep today we rode Zebrugge-Ghent, 40 miles and mid 30c with a couple of beers en route. Lovely ride, fantastic bike path along the canal.

@rak500 it's a great frame, only flaw is it's tiny clearances but for summer riding and touring it's fine. I have bikes with drops, there are pros and cons for both. Low mileage touring I like this bike with these bars because it is fun and discourages fast riding. I'm riding with my other half and we're not looking for big mileages just good fun.

  • Mrs TM's steed.

  • Internal gear hub?

    Love your GT.

  • Cheers fam. Yeah Alfine 8. I have major basket envy.

  • She get on well with alfine8?

  • That's great

  • Nicest Crust I've seen.

  • It's basically the same as my nexus 8, shifting is good with trigger shifter, the hub is heavy and less efficient than a derailleur setup (more drag:slower) and it doesn't have a huge range of gears. if you're set on a hub gear it does the job well for the price, better than a sturmey archer for instance. Not tried a rohloff but they're a different league.

  • Just turning my lht from canal path/epping beater back into tourer mode ready for a 2 week tour of Scotland in July.
Undecided whether or not to refit mudguards or hope for the best?
Pics later, it's kinda a shame to weigh it down with racks again as was surprisingly nimble while stripped down.

  • more for my nature boy disc that would require 'hacking' a derailleur onto anyway. still torn between the two.

  • Better than that?

  • My klikfix handlebar bracket keeps slipping: slowly creeping round til the bag clips the tyre, even with a small bag with minimal stuff. Have tried wrapping the bars in skateboard griptape but no luck. I stripped one of the brackets previously(now replaced) so wary of overtightening. Any tips for a foolproof installation?

  • A rubber strip will be better than grip tape to stop slipping. Normally they come with one I thought?

  • Don't you have the wire that loops under the stem? That's what's really taking the load, the clamps just stabilise the load rather than support it.

  • ^ This.
You can use an old bit of brake cable if you don't have the coated one that comes with the bracket.

  • Ah, so that's what that's for. I assumed it was to semi-permanently attach the bag to the bracket in low risk areas.
    God I'm stupid.

  • Cute :-)

I find the Klickfix system very stable BUT I would like to be able to take it on and of the handlebars with more ease. The cable is annoying to have to take on and off and the way the handlebar clips attach to the bracket with wood screws almost also makes me sad. I would love a equally stable system but that is better for moving from bike to bike. Ma7ybe hinged handlebar attachments and quick release cable.

  • Have found the cable grips but not the cable. Had a clear out of scrap cables and other semi-useful tat the other week. D'oh.
Sure the coated one will mythically appear as soon as I've faffed around looking for an offcut.
Shakedown ride through Oxfordshire countryside today, fit needs fiddling but all good.

Better than a 3 speed or the similarly specc'd 8 speed SAs?

I'm genuinely intrigued. Never used a SA above 3 speed.

  • Anything post 1970 (probably earlier) SA is garbage compared to modern Shimano. If you don't require more than 3 gears look at old F&S hubs from this guy:

I did and am amazed at the quality of the old 1 speed that I have.
