Haven't had by 306 for about 5 years now, but apparently there are two obvious screws and also two non-obvious screws that have rubber washers:

Possible causes for 5-10mm vertical play in a steering column? Specifically in a 306 gti6...
And, cosmetic perfection versus mechanicals -good mechanicals are better right?
