According to this disaster alert page there are 538 people unaccounted for
see this report on the actual fire -
• #46156
Theresa May and the Tories probably think most of them don't count if Brexit takes place.
-
• #46157
538?
-
• #46158
I saw someone mention the 500+ figure on social media yesterday and thought they were out of their minds... Please tell me this cannot be so... Fuck...
-
• #46159
I'd be careful with that 538 number.

My father in law reminded me of the Eventide fire today and was remarking on the similarities of the underlying causes to Grenfell Tower, I found this when I got in tonight

I have just received this please share
Good morning all. Theresa May hasn't called a National minutes silence for the victims of Grenfell fire.Dawn Butler, Shadow Minister for Diverse Communities has asked that we hold one tomorrow 11am to remember all the victims involved in the incident.
Please forward this message to all all your contacts and post on your social media sites using the hashtag #GrenfellMinuteSilence
Thank you

Where is this number even coming from?
650 affected
58 confirmed dead- (592)
30 confirmed injured (562)
So 24 confirmed safe? (538)The tower contained 120 flats/homes. I can see the number of people in the tower being around 538, the number of dead surely cant be close to that?

From then Guardian
The Met Police said on Saturday that 58 people are missing, presumed dead - a figure that includes the 30 confirmed deaths.
-
• #46166
Doesn't the affected just mean the number of people displaced?
-

Obviously people should hold moments of remembrance whenever they feel appropriate. But is it an omission/failing to have not called one yet? I don't know when these things are usually announced but I think the minute's silence after Manchester bombing was two weeks after. There is something moving about having it nationally held everywhere - radio etc. I noticed it was being displayed on the bus information screens on the way in that morning.

It's been announced as Monday I think.

As in tomorrow, same as shadow minister called for?
Just seems there is so much to be angry about and so much to expose, that misplaced outrage is unnecessary (if easy). -

I think I read it in the guardian but can't see it now.

There is much anger amongst the people affected,I am being passed this info by some dear friends who have been directly impacted and have asked me to share it. They are the ones who are feeling abandoned by the lack of action, meaningful dialogue and a complete lack of ownership by May and her government then I am proud to share it.
What would you like them to do? I am sure they would listen to all suggestions. -
• #46172
I realise this is where it comes from, and people are right to be angry. I have no suggestions to make.
I am uneasy at additional anger when there is so much to be justly angry about. Was a genuine question from me about what is "normal" with regards to national minutes silences announced, Manchester was two weeks (I think). It's so easy for someone to spread the idea that eg. a lack of announcement of a minute's silence less than a week after the event is demonstrative of May not caring. Not that I care if she gets unnecessary flack - unease is for two reasons, firstly if some things are easy to refute it takes focus off, secondly with so much hurt why cause more unnecessarily.
However it is petty of me so will shut up. -

That's incredible. When I saw those awful images of the tower burning on the news, I hadn't even imagined that even while that was going on there would be firefighters throughout the building, all the way up to the 23rd floor. They really do an incredible job, and it's a disgrace that they get no more than lip service from the Tories while having their numbers and funding slashed.

Some big words here with equally large consequences
Mr Khan suggested high-rise tower blocks dating from the 1960s and 1970s could be torn down in the wake of the fire, which he said may well be the "defining outcome of this tragedy".
must read.
