Any advantages over the DT R24 except for an extra £100? (I'm looking at the Mason x Hunt 4 season set.)

nah

Hunt wheel sale is on people . Dynamo set looks ok .

Harry Rowland has sourced some silver DA7800 hubs as a starting point for some 'classic' looking wheels. Mavic open pro 28h only come in black. How shit would sliver braking surface / black rim / silver spokes / silver hubs look? They're for this

How about ambrosio excellight in silver?

Harry said he stopped using those because the anodising came off around the nipples and he had complaints.
-
• #7758
ah, shame. they look like nice rims.
H Plus Son TB14 is available in Silver.
Open Pros divide opinion; I've had a set on my road bike for 3 years and they've been absolutely fine.
I've got a set of black Mavic A719 on another bike with silver XT hubs and silver spokes which i think looks fine.

Harry states very clearly on his site: "please dont ask for H Plus Son" !
Yeah I think I'll go with black.

• #7760
Any reason it has to be Harry Rowland?
I don't doubt his skill or reputation, but from what he writes on his website he seems to have become a little set in his ways: he seems reluctant to acknowledge that even the 1990s happened.
Speaking of his website, you might like to mention that it's been hacked.

He's very good value, (on the last build he was about £80 cheaper than my nearest builder in london) I've found him reliable in the past, and like him I'm quite stuck in my ways :)
Having read a few reviews, I'm now thinking about the Kinlin XR19w.

'classic' looking
If you really want classic looking in tune with that frame, anything with a machined brake track will be wrong, and you should be seeking out some grey rims. Good luck finding NOS 28H Open 4 CD :) Since you can't have what you want, you might as well have something nice instead, like Kinlin XR22T. Once you go fat, you won't go back.

I'm after a pair of disc road / gravel tubeless wheels. Any opinions on hope pro 4 20five? These or the hunt X mason which fit my budget.

I have some xr22t built up by @cycleclinic
Great wheels.

Talking of wheels, just popped into Stayer and specced some new road wheels.
DT Swiss RR411
DT Swiss 240
Sapim CX Ray
28/24Should be interesting; never ventured below 32h before.
Nice people in that shop; would exceed wheel budget again.

Here's what a pair of Harry Rowland-built Ambrosio Excellight looks like with silver hubs and spokes, on an old frame:
I'm very happy with them after ~4,000 miles, rear only needed truing after a recent crash. Aesthetically it's not absolutely "classic" but I think it works with the mix of black/white and silver components. If I were to repeat the refurb experiment, I'd be tempted to go down the silver TB14 route or similar, but I'm happy to stick with these for now.

They look nice. Is that built with sram force?
-
• #7768
I think I meant sympathetic, rather than classic. I have carbon DA wheels on my other Basso and it's fun to ride but ugly. I'll be happy with an improvement on that.
Do wider rims offer less tyre deformation, thus less rolling resistance and better cornering? I've read threads about this somewhere but can;t be bothered to dig it up.

Cheers, yeah Force 10-spd that was current around 2011/12, except I later swapped out the front mech for the Force 22 mech with Yaw, much better. But I think the old style crank is a little more retro-friendly.

Yes. A rare instance where you can actually believe the hype.

The velocity a23 come in a classic-looking silver polish with a bunch of different drillings. I have em in black and they're the shit.

I need to replace my R24's, what are the hive mind approved light all round alu wheels?
Can stretch to 400 European rupees for a set so have been thinking about something hand built. A set of Kinlin XR22T with Bitex hubs seem around that price point. Any alternatives worth looking at?

Has anyone heard anything for about RRP for the Open Pro Exalith yet?
(Supposedly) very close to launch, and seems lot's of builders had access to them so must be some figures or rumours out there ...
-
• #7774
According to Strada wheels, available in July and at a princely sum of £145/rim.

Just got off the phone with Mavic.. Apparently the new Open Pro will not be released in an Exalith version after all.
