• Got any pics?

  • Will sort some. The only one to hand is of the Manxman frame when it was a bike pre-stripping down/cleaning.

  • Yep @user48602 , always interested in parts - but I also have a 1936 Sun Manx TT in the pipeline for refurbishment :) Depends a bit where you are at and from what era?

    Cheers, Rogier

  • The Manxman is from the early 50s, I think - a Sid Patterson model. The other frame I have is from the 30s - unknown model, which needs a complete refurb. Other odds and sods include Sun Wasp pedals, brakes etc.

  • Are those Resilion cantilevers working?

  • That's one of the things I have to find replacement cables for. Both rear and front cable are bodged together. One family owned bike, left in a shed for 25 years after grandpa died. Until I came along, ha ha. Attached a picture as I found it.

One of a few next projects. Pre war Sun parts would be very useful, especially the pedals and brake parts. I have to say, I have so many frame and forks at the moments that I could probably use anything that is pre-1955ish.

The Sun Manxman had the strutted bracket - does your frame have that?
Would love to see some pictures, tia - Rogier

  • Anyone know where to get pedals restored and how much it costs?

  • I've got a '38 Parkes which was like Sun's premium brand. Always like to see more Suns.

I really ought to get mine finished.

  • My Dad bought me a Constrictor branded bag off your mate in that case. I'm guessing it was from a bike jumble.

Unfortunately it didn't last long. It ripped where the top panel (with the zip) joins the front panel.

  • Would be surprised if it was him. His lockrings look ace!

  • Hey knowledgeable people of the antique bike stuff...
My friend has lost a part from his brake levers.
Any clues to put him in the right direction to find a replacement?

  • That's GB/Altenburger I think. Not hugely expensive. There's some levers on ebay at the moment.
I don't have any more GB spares apart from Superhoods.

  • Thanks! Will transmit info!

  • @veLLo Lincoln Imp? Let me check my spares tomorrow - I might have a replacement.

  • Bit faded and worn - he can have it for postage costs @veLLo

  • Pix of Sun Manxman frame. Looks ok with a quick wipedown, so shd be fine after a proper clean.

  • It's a Les Patterson model. The headset clip threw me, but it looks like the one in the 1951 catalogue. Sun Wasp pedals and brakes

  • .... here.

  • Did I say Les Patterson?! Oh dear.....

    Anyway, SID Patterson 1951.

Now what would a Les Patterson cycle look like? It would probably have braze-ons for as many bottle cages as possible

Wow! Thanks for looking into this!
Will forward you your post to my friend (Monty) and let you know!

  • Is there ever a gathering of owners and riders of this old stuff? I'd enjoy that. I've got a bike that qualifies and I qualify too. Maybe I will organise a pub evening? Those in favour say 'I'm buying......'

  • Im up for that @MetalMelly.
While I'm on here does anybody know where I can source some ideally brass, (If such a thing exists) step down brake/gear cable ferrules.
    SJScycles maybe?

  • Thanks. I'll do a bit of promotion for this and see what pops up.

  • I'm in! I have a few that qualify 👍
