i currently have a 10spd disc brake wheel with a hope hub. i'd be quite happy to rebuild using that hub if i can stick and 11-34 11speed cassette on...
"11 speed cassettes for the new group are for the most part unchanged in six standard offerings: 11-25, 11-28, 11-30, 11-32, 12-25 & 14-28. But a new wider range 11-34 HG800 cassette is also being made available for those looking for proper gravel-ing gearing. The 11-34 is actually designed to fit on the narrower freehub body of a mountain bike hub, so it is able to do double duty with an included spacer for 11-speed road hubs as well."
More gear options, while old wheels are thrown an 11-speed lifeline: Shimano adds a new Ultegra and Deore XT-level wider range 11-34t HG800 cassette, which adds a 2-tooth bigger low gear. HG800? Yes, it’s confusing, as Ultegra cassettes are R8000 while Deore XT are M8000, while Tiagra is HG500, but them’s the names. Two teeth alone might not sound like big news, but for anyone with older “10-speed” wheels, this is bigger-than-two-teeth news. The new 11-34t cassette means you can grab your old 10/9/8-speed road or mountain bike wheels and use them on your 11-speed drivetrain without a massive 11-40t, 11-42 or 11-46t cassette (and mountain bike rear derailleur) or adaptor. It’s also an interesting option to turn old 10-speed freehub wheels into viable options for 1x drivetrains, even with SRAM components.
So, I have permission to buy/build a new bike.
This sounds like a bargain.
What to hang off it
New Ultegra Di2 hyrdaulic disc brake groupset, 50/34 11/34 cassette, direct mount rear mech, but move my rotor power2max cranks over from commuto-x biek
Will probably stick with Thomson seatpost and stem
I want to build 650b wheelset, just not sure if I want dynamo hub or not. Rear will be a hope pro evo, possibly i can recycle one from an old rear wheel if the 10spd mtb hub takes the 11/34 cassette. Need to investigate a little more. Triple butted spokes, rims tbc. Tubeless rim needed, probably with Schwalbe G-One tyres.
Will also keep wheel set from commuto-x (hope pro evos laced to pacenti rims set up tubeless)
Will probably stick with 3t ergo nova bars, unless there is something else that will work well with the new ultegra shifter shape.
So right now decisions to be made
dynamo or not and if yes, what lights
bottle cages
bar tape
mudguards
rack? or do i ask Matt to spray my tubus airy Ti to match?
do i get finishing kit sprayed to match?
