I thought the answer to that was go for the cheapest - restaurants know that people on dates will always go for the 2nd cheapest so as not to appear stingy, so they can put any rubbish there and it will still sell?
Heard that too. The cheapest/house wine on the menu is often better than the 2nd cheapest because they want the house wine to have a good reputation.
Doubt the same logic applies to fire alarms...
