  • The Sheldon method works, make sure the bolts are just tight enough to have some grip on the chainring and hit the chain pretty hard.

    Also I'm late the conversation but for fitting grips I find lighter fluid works really well, it evaporates quickly and doesn't leave any residue so you can get the grips off again in future, with effort.

  • Genuinely, they don't. They get a bit longer when they begin to wear out but this is to do with the pins and bushes wearing down. So it may get a bit longer but as it wears out, not as it settles in from being new. An over tight chain will very quickly wear through your nice chainring and cog though.
