  • Yeah Fixie king is lfgss in Danish more or less. :-)

I am a member of velocipedesalon, but haven't really used it, as it is a little messy. At least seen from the outside, but maybe I should spend some time reading posts there and maybe share some images.

When I come to Copenhagen next I expect to meet up, drink beer and get a #fixieking on insta ;)

Yeah you should. There are some really great frame builders on there and although the site is a little awkward, I think you would get some valuable contributions.

  • Thanks mate. I won't be in cph there though. And I need to paint the frame back in Aarhus.

    I am thinking RAL 5021

  • Før fedt..

I would love to start bulding as well. The only thing that keeps me back is that my math-incapable brain would melt over all the angles when calculating miters and such. The front triangle is pretty straight forward i guess, but the seatstay-seattube cluster and such. Ugh.

Might give it a real go though. Got so many ideas.

I started out by using rear triangles from bikes to create the basis of a bike. My cargo bike project which rod munch thought looked like a dog licking himself :-) was actually based on an old steel MTB. I going to build a SSCX from a bbshel and attached chain stays from an old Kona MTB. This will give me a free pre threaded bb shell and save me time on building a bb alignment rack. All I have to do is making an alignment rack from mdf

I can help you with that :]

  • That is a truly beautiful project and I get the models too, I always make a model to get my 'brain round' an idea. Brazing with Acetylene/oxy is wonderful and one of my favourite processes, but I have had to switch to propane recently, you can do it as brazing is more about the volume of heat rather than the very high temp focused flame acet was designed for. An air blown torch with propane as fuel works well and you can use compressor as well, don't know what you have over there but the most common ones in uk are Flamefast. Very interested to follow your experiments, silver flows easy with air blown propane but I would guess it's only useful with lugged builds? I've used TIG to braze bronze, it does not flow as well as a flame, may be worth a go. Again an inspirational bike, sir!

  • Thank you drspoor. Do you by any chance have images of your setup?
You still have to use oxygen from a tank, or do you simply use propane + air from compressor??

  • Bloody hell that's impressive. Kudos to you!

  • Thx.
    Images working now

  • Bad resolution though.

  • How's the steering with that huge kink in the track rod?

  • I need to fix the steering a bit, but the kink is no issue

  • Oddly, I saw a Bullitt today, and that obviously has the same bent track rod but to me it looked thicker. I guess the forces involved don't bend it enough to make any sloppiness problematic. I'm still stuck in the 1990s, when Bimota had to get zero flex and zero backlash into the steering linkage of the Tesi to make it work - steering inputs on a Superbike at a race track are clearly several orders of magnitude bigger than trundling around in a single-track wheelbarrow :-)

  • single-track wheelbarrow :-)

From the weekend build-up before the Festival at Roskilde

  • You deserve all the rep ever!

Wanna build me multiple multiple bikes?

  • ^^ Nice to see it's getting a thorough load testing!

  • ^^ Nice to see it's getting a thorough load testing!

it's a traditional long john to wheelbarrow conversion.

  • Strong headwinds and fully loaded makes riding less fun. But overall it was a great succes. The bike handles great and I am actually able to stand up in the pedals when going up hill.

  • Impressive!

  • Hi all,
Thx for the many lovely comments. Some have approached me asking for updates.
The frame is currently in storage as I have been out riding the shit out of my roadbike and traveeling through Europe. I will be exhibiting the bike next month at The Formland design exhibition in Herning, Denmark. That, and the fact that I am completely broke, makes updates impossible. Painting will come later this summer I hope.
I need to finish some details on the steering system, and sort out the seattube issue. I need a 27.2 reamer (if you got a used one for sale holler at me) as the tubing have deformed caused by heating, and the extended seattube is not holding up well. There's a slight bulge in the seatstay cluster, and I dare not to ride it until I get this fixed properly.
Worst of all is that because I finished architecture school I currently have no place to build bikes properly. I need to get some money flowing to be able to pay rent on a workspace and get some new materials for future builds. Unfortunately I have chosen to start my own business in the field of temporary architecture / videoinstallations and getting started and getting money flowing does not go well in hand with building bikes ;-)

I will keep you updated though!

  • ... 4 years later.

I am now living in London and my cargo bike has been in storage for 4 years. I just got a new flat in Crouch End and there is space to store the bike safely inside so I am thinking about bringing it over to the UK.
I have learned a lot since I build this and I have a long list of things I am toying with, but before I go into all of that I have one immediate issues to solve:

HOW do I get it delivered to my work in Euston from Denmark without it costing the same as buying all the tubes and starting over?

If it makes it easier or cheaper I also have a couch and a pallet worth of stuff I would like brought over.
I have called a couple of danish truck transport companies but gotten really unrealistic quotes or been denied service as I am a private person.

Since these photos ^ were taken the seat tube has been cut and reamed, a new steerer arm has been made and a new kickstand is almost done.

I have dreams about getting this up and running.

  • If you are not in a rush...
We have a Danish distributor who drives regularly from Frederikshavn with an empty van to our cellars in France near Reims.
I then drive regularly from Reims to London.
Not sure about the couch n' pallet since it is quite voluminous be something could be arranged for the bike.
    BISH BASH BOSH

  • Yes man!!! Fuck the couch. I can sit on the bike

  • oooor.. you could ride it and sleep on the couch when you stop.. :)
