I'd thought so but later I realised it's an advantage to have the chainring a little inward closer to the bigger cassette, as even when you line the chainring right at the middle of the cassette, the chain can drop down a gear or two on the biggest sprocket if you backpedal ever so slightly.
(Although I know we should never back pedals but it's not something we can actively avoid doing all the time).
i thought offset chainrings were more for the varying mountainbike rear end widths, 135/148/150 ect
