hippy is ~50 miles from the highest point of the ride; Hoosier Pass and the Continental Divide. 3500m or so high, climbing up there in the thin air will be hard work.
It's all downhill from there (except for the uphill and flat bits)

He's not doing that badly considering he started with a puncture that was probably proportional in time to the length of the race!
That Lochie kid hitched a ride back to the route when he took a wrong turn. Would be stupid enough, but no, he also got dropped off further down the course and he posted about it on instagram.

Proof he is a total pratt.

At least his commenters have pointed that out.
I would hope he'd correct his issue and ride all the way back, but I doubt he will.
It irks me a bit, his disrespect on the sport I love

It should irk you a lot!

I see another racer fixed his dynamo cable, not quite solo and unsupported. I hope a mature vetran racer has a word with him at the finish and put's him on the right path.
It's a free world. Maybe Nath (race organiser) will deal with it.

Really frustrated by his words/actions in this race. Totally flies in the face of what self-supported ultra racing is about. Should be DQ'd and listed as DNF imo.
Edit: (what self-supported ultra racing means to me)

Solar charging is interesting, wonder how the weight is. 3 sides of the saddle bag and/or both sides of frame bag would count for something if the weather is decent. 2-3 sqft exposed most of the time.

I emailed someone I know, to see if they can speak to someone they know, who is in a position to speak to him and help educate him.
We'll seeAnd @Yemble given his longer sleep stops, that mostly seem at hotels I doubt he uses it much. I played with one when touring once, and wasn't much use. But maybe his is better. All the riding photo's I've seen on him, he does not have it out.

Looooong descent coming up should put a grin on him.

Don't forget the other guy he mentions too...

hippy:
Caught in roadworks, then fell over. What's the point not drinking if I still can't walk straight?
I can't believe he can be so foolish as not to drink.

That seems odd with hippy's Tweets, it appears they were all queued up while he didn't have a signal and were coming through after a long delay. That's probably completely normal, but I haven't a clue.

I have to say, again, that what really gripped me about the TCR last year was simply that people could choose their own routes between checkpoints. I find rides with a fixed route, like IPWR or TABR, significantly less interesting. Mike Hall definitely had the right idea there, such a shame he can't put it into practice any more.

Mike's gone, but his vision and resulting legacy isn't.

That's true. The flip side, which Jesse really exploited on IPWR, is that with a defined route, you can do much better media coverage as you know where the riders will be to go and film / interview them.

Front runner Benjamin Colwill has scratched overnight, sounded like an achilles injury.

He got a bit of stick in IPWR for ditching his sleeping gear and then borrowing a tarp and jacket off another rider as well as borrowing blankets from locals. By all accounts he hasn't learned.
It's not that swollen.
