Local rando/touring/fancy silver bits shop figured out a way to get a gearing range wider than Eagle on the cheap (before Sram released the cheaper versions). Basically through some combination of friction shifting, mountain drivetrain bits, and magic, they run huge pie-plate cassettes and doubles that have, say, a 22 and 42 ring.
