Ah got it. So once the route is set for that year, a record stands even if that route is slightly different to the route the previous record was set on. Cheers.

Seems to be the case yeah. 2015 was the first year it didn't go through Rawlins, WY because of huge road construction south of there into Colorado, now the route stays offroad for the whole of the great basin via Wamsutter, and Matt Lee said this would be a permanent change (as it's a better route).

It would count, as it is the official route for this year. But a reroute due to Fire further into the race, taking you off the official GPX doesn't count. It's quite vague.
