Wouldn't take the risk anyway, after the warning they usually want you to show up at a police station with 2 brakes and i cannot mount a rear.

also most of them don't get how a fixed gear works so even with a front brake i end up with half an hour of blablabla and then nothing happens

I'm glad that there aren't as many dicks riding breakless here as in Berlin. That's why the cops are more relaxed I guess.

On another note, I did the first longer ride today. I mounted a friend's dropbar and we went out for a quick 30km ride. The handling was a bit awkward at first coming from 600mm and I was also worried I couldn't handle the massive drop but it was real fun! No stress on my back, wrists or balls.

The chainring seems to be seriously untrue btw. You can clearly see it when the driveside crank passes 10 o'clock and again at 7.
I tried to center it with the help of Sheldon Brown but it didn't get better than this. Weren't Zen supposed to be one of the truest chainrings? :(

Who says it isn't your chain or even the cog? My chain has a different tension at different crank orientations. I wouldn't worry about it, and I wouldn't worry about the Zen chainring especially.

I thought about it but since it's always the same position I assumed that it's the chainring.

@PhilDAS I tightened the chain just before we started the ride because I had a fair amount of chain slack again. And since the chain is quite new and might still lengthen itself I just pulled the wheel back without checking the (un)trueness of the chainring/cog/chain. Might have been a dumb move.

The Sheldon method works, make sure the bolts are just tight enough to have some grip on the chainring and hit the chain pretty hard.

Also I'm late the conversation but for fitting grips I find lighter fluid works really well, it evaporates quickly and doesn't leave any residue so you can get the grips off again in future, with effort.

Genuinely, they don't. They get a bit longer when they begin to wear out but this is to do with the pins and bushes wearing down. So it may get a bit longer but as it wears out, not as it settles in from being new. An over tight chain will very quickly wear through your nice chainring and cog though.

It'a still weird that the tension varies that much.

I'll probably buy me compact drops and clickies someday for serious business but that's not in the near future.
