Tory's didn't call an election, it was May and her close aides not the party
-
• #3228
Chatting with a friend and he suggested that should another election be called, the 'left' should agree to use this election as a primary, with the winning progressive candidate standing unopposed in each constituency.
Would that work? Does the maths work out for the close run seats?

Scotland
Listening to the radio first thing, that was the big surprise. Conservatives taking seats. Who'd have thought?

The maths works. Does the politics work? Probably.

Lib dems aren't on board with that

If they're happy to lump all Muslims together, I'm happy to do the same.
Edit : just to be clear, Tories not Muslims.

The view in Europe (from Manfred Weber, leader of the EPP)
One year after the decision of the British people to leave the
European Union, we see that Europe - Paris, Berlin and even Brussels -
are stable. We are ready but we see disorientation in London, and
that's why it's not a positive thing we experienced last nightIt's purely a domestic decision who is our partner but we want to
start ( the negotiations). Time is running. Instability, losing time
is not in our EU interest . We want to have an agreement. Europe is
for the moment strong and united and we wait for BritainIt's more a problem in London than in Brussels at the moment. So we
need a strong partner on the British side and that's not the case

Tories have literally said they will keep asking for recounts in Kensington until they are denied.
-
• #3235
literally?
-
• #3236
It is an entirely reasonable feeling!
May didn't need to do this. Entirely off her own bat. Just like Cameron and the Brexit referendum. The Tories now have a recent history of risking the country's future over stupid political gambles. Could not be less strong and stable.

I'm not sure what's going on here but not much makes sense at the moment

when will new labour / bliarites start calling for corbyns head ?

"There's still no result in Kensington, west London, after two recounts.
The Conservatives say they'll keep calling for recounts until they are denied any more, rather than concede, the BBC understands."

Channel 4 did a great piece about a week ago where they went to Scotland - outside of the SNP strongholds - and interviewed people about voting intentions.
Anecdotal and qualitative but it made it pretty clear that people were swinging from the SNP and to the Tories not Labour.
I can't explain why the Tories but the why they were shifting away from the SNP was that they didn't appreciate another independence referendum being on the cards and generally a feeling that the SNP had got too big for their boots.
Seems they'd caught the zeitgeist...

Kensington and Chelsea would be an iconic loss for the Tories. No wonder they're finding it so hard to accept. Fingers crossed...
I'm on holiday in Italy and had WhatsApp'd my Mum about the Labour win in Warwick and Leamington. She just replied to say she's glad her vote counted for a change :))

You may want to do a recount.
Explain? Greens are the other pro-independence party and got no seats. Swing had been to the anti-independence Tories and Scottish Labour oppose another referendum?

From Twitter:
Here's a thought: the total share of the UK vote for right wing
parties just dropped from 50% to 45%, on a higher turnout. It's a nice idea. And perhaps we'll see the right-wing press slowly starved of its lifeline.

If greens can push green policies into Labour / LD manifesto then they might do well to drop candidates from second GE, 'taking one for the team' to be rewarded in future when negotiations actually start
