    I can completely see why they wanted to call another independence referendum as well, seeing as the shite that the unionists came out with tended to be based on the EU membership. But I think they just misjudged how little appetite there was for more uncertainty and disruption, like the Lib Dems did with their second referendum promise.

  • I think the SNP had to fight on two fronts that are very hard to resolve though; firstly, pro-Europe, socialist core which alienates the wealthier older more right leaning votes they might have stolen from the Tories, and then the independence aspect which alienates the protestant, sometime Unionists they'd nicked from Labour when nobody really thought Independence was on the cards. Then there's just the issue voters that believe all the shite spread about poor healthcare and education stats that were spread around in the press without much scrutiny-it was far easier for Davidson to get traction up here because the media are so fucking willing to indulge her...
