Very nice indeed.

No it doesn't, Moonwatch specification is a Hesalite crystal, if you don't have that then it's not a Moonwatch.
-
• #22379
If you have the Hesalite one you have an inferior product

ooo boi that looks nice

This was my grandfather's watch which I inherited. The strap broke a year ago and I lost the watch. It wasn't anything special but sentimental obviously. Anybody know the model? Or bought one in the last year....?

Nasa only flight-qualified the ones with Hesalite. Sapphire failed the tests.
Hesalite: tested in Bienne, tested in Houston, tested on the moon.

Is it mechanical?
Was it ever... Is it still in COSC?
-
• #22392
Parnis COSC? LOL
-
• #22393
U wid be suprised...
-
• #22394
Yeah mechanical and keeps really good time. I don't think the movement is COSC certified but it's a generic one so you never know.
This guy measured one and found the timekeeping good too.

I quite like the looks on this one. Paid 5 euro's for it (it's Chinese).
Simple battery powered watch. It's a bit fast. About 2 minutes in the last week. I like the simple look. Not the greatest finish, but it's a 5 euro's Chinese watch, what can you expect. The strap looks great and I think it's leather. Not entirely convinced about that.

cloudfare issue, it was posted twice :S

Hesalite was preferred to crystal in space ships as it doesn't shatter into tiny pieces if it breaks. Tiny pieces of crystal would be nearly impossible to gather up in zero gravity and could cause a problem for equipment/astronauts if it's floating around.
On earth, where the majority of wannabe astronaut moon watch wearers will forever be based it's more useful to have a watch glass that doesn't scratch if you sneeze on it.

Saw a watch in the charity shop today. It was by 'Marc Gay' - no idea, seems like a nobody-brand from France - but the face was amazing, asymmetric square, a little bit off, with alternating pattern white face like a shiny white checkerboard. Shoulda just grabbed it for the novelty. May go back tomorrow.
