Totally depends on your landlord and relationship with them. I was in my last place 6 years or so. Asked before we got cats and he just fobbed us off with an "I'll think about it response" and never came back to us. Other than that our relationship was good. We went ahead and got cats without telling him. I even put a cat flap in the back door. When we moved out he was totally fine with it as he was either going to sell or refurbish anyway. I had in the back of my mind an amount of the deposit that we wouldn't see again but it never came to it.
any advice on renting with cats? I have two indoor cats, 8 years old now and very settled - been in current place 11 years and although the landlord didn't know about them, I don't think he cared as he got a good tenant who paid on time every month. I'm moving at the end of the month and most rental adverts via the agencies say no pets - is it a case of actually asking upfront, or do you guys personally just take the risk and say nothing? cheers
