I was honest with my landlord, he just requested that I pay an additional deposit to cover any damage that the cat may cause although he is a reasonable person, unlike some landlords.
Maybe it is worth getting something in writing from your current landlord to say that you are trustworthy and that the cats caused no problems and offer to pay an additional deposit with the new landlord. This all depends on how reasonable and understanding they are though. Personally I wouldn't want to risk not telling them.
any advice on renting with cats? I have two indoor cats, 8 years old now and very settled - been in current place 11 years and although the landlord didn't know about them, I don't think he cared as he got a good tenant who paid on time every month. I'm moving at the end of the month and most rental adverts via the agencies say no pets - is it a case of actually asking upfront, or do you guys personally just take the risk and say nothing? cheers
