  • Jesus, Boris as PM? That's a harrowing thought. Again. At least there'd be some satisfying transatlantic symmetry to it, though.

  • is it me, or is Sky News now better than BBC News channel - last night they gave an easy representation of what every major party policy would effect parts of society in a few easy graphs, then a proper in depth discussion,

BBC seems full of just repeating things over and over again and ensuring that each party gets equal 'x' number of seconds airtime in everything they do.

  • Went to vote this morning. Turns out I'd already done it by post.

I'd be happy with a meaningful opposition, preferably one against a Tory party that isn't even more right-leaning.

  • Nice.

Is that what you told them at the polling station when they told you that you already had ;)

  • Ha! It's Walthamstow, so pretty safe... I thought the postal thing was local only – that was the confusion.

  • Is this gonna be like in the states where we start seeing results coming in from different constituencies at like midnight? Or will we have to wait until tomorrow?

  • I voted at 7.30am in Stoke Newington and can't report any queues.

  • You'll get a good steer from the 10pm exit poll as to the likely results, then individual seats coming in throughout the night from 12 pm to 6-7 am. It will only be worth following if it is close in the exit polls.

  • There's somewhere oop north that bang out the result around midnight - Sunderland or Sheffield or somewhere, but all the others drip in over the early hours. If it's close the result won't be till the early hours - 3am ish.

  • Does May even last until the parliamentary Summer Recess?

  • done my bit, lib dem candidate in my area has a very strong chance of beating tory

I think the lib dems were left out of the conversation for most of this, coverage has been red vs blue, I'm realistically hoping they might gain a few seats and keep the pressure on labour to be more competent

ftse is hovering at 7480 and sterling is up. I'm thinking that the pound has little room for an advance above where it is regardless of the outcome

  • Fingers crossed for a good result, is there a glimmer of hope for labour???

  • The only hope that exists is that young people, below 35, actually vote.

    That's it.

There is no other hope, and no pollster is betting on a change in this... no-one believes the young will vote.

  • wet and cold weather today so I'm guessing the youth vote is lost

  • On my walk to the polling station, through the leafy, more well to-do streets of Upper Norwood where mostly middle-class white people own the detached and semi-detached houses, I only saw Labour posters in front windows. It is a safe Labour seat but it was still heartening to see.

  • If you can't decide vote for the more attractive candidate

  • ^^ that jacket with those trousers on the bloke in the background. shudders

  • is that ec1 collective blue ?

  • I read something recently that says there is no statistical evidence for this.

  • I'm sure you'll have plenty of company round south manc, just don't stray into Cheshire. They'll be honking the horns of the range rovers and riding serfs bareback round the fields

  • Fingers crossed for a good result, is there a glimmer of hope for
    labour???

Not at this election in my opinion but I've been wrong before... about many, many things. However the best thing about this election is that the Labour campaign has gone some way to connect young people with the importance of voting, how it affects their lives and how much inequality there is. There does seem to be strong appetite for change, but I don't think it will be at this election.

For an absolute lame duck, completely written off as a credible leader of even his own party three months ago, Corbyn has had an excellent campaign.

  • regardless of the outcome, hopefully corbyn's performance will see the discredited blairite shitstirrers consigned to the sea for good.

    probably won't tho.
