What time is it? Watches and horology

I couldn't get deep scratches out with Polywatch, went into Alsal and five seconds in the back room later they produced a brand spankers looking crystal... They didn't charge me either... #Alsal4lyf

I presume Alsal is in London?

Looking for toothpaste now.

Was spammed these on Facebook - seem reasonably priced for ETA GMT movements, and the designs are nicely legible. Know nothing about the company, though.

Yeah, but I imagine any local watchmaker will be able to do this for you... It, quite literally, took the guy less than a minute to do..

PS Doesn't work on glass, obvs...

That said the brand just seem souless to me.

So much of todays culture had been designed by a set of generic marketing standards that suck the life out of the product. imo

Some of the watch site reviews of Farer are laughable

"Finally, a GMT that is affordable!"

There are many choices when it comes to GMT watches for less than a grand. £1,175 is a bit steep.

Steinhart sell watches with ETA 2893-2 Elaboré movement (one above the Farer movements) for £425!

They're divers, though. I struggled to find a GMT pilot style watch for under a grand - most reasonable I could find was Oris, which was just over.

Fair enough if you don't like the Farer stuff though, I was sharing not endorsing.

I've got a plastic crystal on my cheap little 60s Rotary, it works great... I can read the dial through it and it also keeps the rain out... #whocares

I wonder why pilot watches command a premium even with identical movements?

£800 extra seems like a big premium for a different style case.
