  • Which is my point, the frame builder chooses the headtube length to suit their design, cuts it too said length, then brazes in the rings. There's nothing that would/should have stopped the Chroma-flair frame from having a shorter headtube and a less extreme stem.

  • there are different kinds of head tubes. your frame has a 3 piece headtube, on the stanridge he used a stiffer and lighter one piece like this:

    If you look closely you see it's thicker around the bearing seat. If you would cut it you would be left with a odd size tube. You could make your own ring for it, but that takes away from the initial idea of a one piece head tube..
