  • Seriously, I might just join you. Which nights Markyboy?
    Al

  • I just went to read the May interview on The Telegraph site. Paywalled. As is the Times.

In an election campaign it seems to me that the RW press are not going to win over much support by only allowing supporters to read their pieces.

  • Labour turned up last week, when asked where their Surgery was, I received a blank look.

I'm not surprised as only elected MPs have surgeries. Also you won't see political parties canvassing in a safe seat - why bother?

  • Advance warning of media appearance fallout

Diane Abbott is on a Woman's Hour election debate starting at 9am this morning

  • Councillors will have surgeries too and it's possible for there to be Labour councillors even in a safe Tory parliamentary seat - but it's not especially relevant in the parliamentary campaign.

  • She had better not fuck this up.

  • Sadly, I think she has diligently stacked the odds against herself

  • even if she doesn't, the usual shitfest of entitled middle class white men will be along to tell her she has.

i also hope she doesn't fuck it up.

  • lets hope she writes the key numbers on her arm before she goes in

    #olevelcheating

  • and that the invigilator doesn't catch her looking

  • Unfortunately the prejudice against Abbott is not just prejudice. She does not prepare and she is out of her depth and the Labour party can't fucking afford to keep giving the Tories these gifts.

  • yeah she needs some media training. probably best not to quote a raging tory shitwit to make a point.

  • She's been my constituency MP for the last 25 years. It doesn't take a tory shitwit to point out that Labour would benefit from keeping her away from a microphone. Media training? She hasn't read the report. She is not doing her job. I don't want ministers who have just learned how to fake it convincingly.

  • speaking of tory shitwits

  • wonder if the problem is all the ex labour shadow cabinet and labour heavyweights ( i can't think of any right now ) refusing to work with unelectable, take us back to the 70's corbyn

wonder if they are regretting it now

  • I agree on Abbott, she has been an MP for a very long time, so assume she is a decent constituency MP but at national/ cabinet level she is out of her depth and damaging to the party. I can refute most points people bring up about why not to not Corbyn/ Labour bit weak cabinet/ Abbott I really struggle with.

  • Corbyn has surpassed expectations but Abbott has done the opposite. And it pisses me off because being so inept, so apparently lazy, is inexcusable. It's like she doesn't think it really matters.

  • I agree. The reality seems to be that she is lazy and complacent (which I suspect comes from a whole career spent plodding along without any great responsibility in government), and to make matters worse, she becomes patronising when challenged.

I recall Corbyn being questioned on her suitability to a role in his cabinet (i.e. becoming the Home Secretary), and he was - to my surprise - a little noncommittal.

  • That's tough. It would be quite painful voting for her but what else can you do? You could probably say the same about people in Vauxhall (i.e. with Kate 'Farage' Hoey).

  • ha! Diane Abbott has pulled out of women's hour due to illness. watch twitter explode.

  • Yeah, thats my constituency (Vauxhall). I`ll still be voting for her again though

  • any particular reason, other than she's the labour candidate?

i don't doubt she's done good things for the community she represents but her views on hunting, europe and grammar schools dont exactly make her endearing to the metropolitain liberal leftard elite

  • No other reason

  • I haven't voted for Abbott in the last 2 or 3 elections but only because it's one of the safest Labour seats around. I vote Green, just to keep their spirits up. There's something to be said for long time MPs having experience and knowledge of their constituency and something to be said for not letting them have a job for life. How she rates as a constituency MP I am not sure but it's certainly one where an MP will have a lot on their plate.

  • I suppose Labour did have one get out of jail free card in play after May's no show. Wise to use it here?
