Wouldn't it make more sense to have a shorter headtube and a 0 degree stem?
-
• #4631
But then it wouldn't be #slamthatstem

The cockpit is horrible

But then it wouldn't be #slamthatstem
Yes, it would.

All my recent Talbots have been designed so that the top-tube is at the same angle as a -6 stem to avoid the barn-roof issue.

Shameless boast post

Damn you and your gif sorcery.
-17 is still more hip hop -

It looks better like that, but does it look as slave? Not sure.
The dropouts are just bizarre tho
-
• #4639
No, it's a bit mamil-ly with the headtube and positive stem
-
• #4640
Apparently the dropouts were done like that so the hanger would be perpendicular to the ground, improves shifting or something

thomson only comes in 17º and 10º. but I agree, a 10º would look better. He (frame builder) probably couldn't get the exact size headtube he needed and didn't want spacers.

Thomson most definitely do
0deg stems -

The framebuilder could have cut the headtube down - it's a choice to have it that length.
-
• #4646
no it isn't.. you can't just cut integrated headtubes, especially when they are one piece and internally relieved. Than you can't cut at all..
-
• #4647
Yes you can, have a look at my Time Machine thread for pictures of Ryan cutting my headtube down on his lathe. Measure, cut, braze in the bearing retaining rings, bosh.
-

braze in the bearing retaining rings, bosh.
exactly.. not really one piece.. and yours is EXternally relieved
-
• #4649
Which is my point, the frame builder chooses the headtube length to suit their design, cuts it too said length, then brazes in the rings. There's nothing that would/should have stopped the Chroma-flair frame from having a shorter headtube and a less extreme stem.

there are different kinds of head tubes. your frame has a 3 piece headtube, on the stanridge he used a stiffer and lighter one piece like this:
If you look closely you see it's thicker around the bearing seat. If you would cut it you would be left with a odd size tube. You could make your own ring for it, but that takes away from the initial idea of a one piece head tube..
Lot of things that could be said about this, but definitely hip hop.
