  • That is begging for some form of winding pathway, round shrubs, under trees, not all in view, leading you down the garden path.

  • Stupid internet. It was meant to be a picture of some coving adhesive.

  • Looks great! Where did the windows come from? WoW? Roughly how much per window did you spend, if you don't mind me asking. Timber sash and case / double glazed?

  • If it were a single piece of worktop, I would avoid wood like the plague, But the worktop is three 2m lengths of wood - only one of which has the undercut sink & rot in it.

Replacing 1 x 2m length seems acceptable, given that this is only going to be temporary.

Whatever I spend is going to be regretted spend, as I'll be ditching the lot in a couple of years, when we re-do the kitchen entirely.

  • I've been talking to a neighbour about solving this problem. It's time consuming but you could replace the wood behind the sink with stone, could look alright if it's done properly. It needs some skills tools and careful measurement though, in the end the labour costs would be around the price of a new piece of worktop (maybe not fitted).

  • Anyone with a local Homebase.

Cycled down to mine this afternoon,
    and,
they are clearing out all the discontinued lines of power tools.

Mainly 'Guild', including drill & (puny) impact driver combos,
and 'Worx', plenty of 4 inch angle grinders,
    but also some Bosch.

    Worth a look.

  • Nice one, thanks for the info. I may be being very slow here, but I still don't quite know the name of the company I'm supposed to be googling...

  • I'm guessing 'Donatas'.

  • Are there any restaurant supply businesses in your area? I would look for an old table/countertop section in stainless, cut to size and replace the wood with that.

  • Don't change a thing, looks magical!
Ok, get some real lawn furniture.

  • Yes yes, tried that.

  • I've got a leak in my bathroom ceiling. It's pretty small and slow but water is definitely getting in from the roof above.

What's the best course of action here?

  • Get into the loft, find the leak, fix the leak.

  • Sorry, looked plastic from the edge of the pic...

  • While I've got the sink out I want to swap out the mixer tap. Any recommendations for a budget-ish mixer tap with one control on the front or right. This is my sink, are they a fairly standard fitting?

  • Need anything else Plumb-y?

BES, free deliveries for orders over £40.

    We have the top one in this list;
    https://www.bes.co.uk/plumbing-supplies/kitchens-catering/sinks-and-taps
as mrs.mespilus is clumsy with hardware,
and I have replaced two previous more expensive monobloc taps.

  • I don't think so, still looks pretty cheap even with delivery. How's the spray? Current one has a really thin, high pressure hot water jet which sprays off the bottom of the sink. Really grinds my gears.

  • Get one of these

  • Yeah that's a standard tap fitting. Get the associated tap spanner if you don't want to go mental trying to tighten it up!

  • Foot operated mixer tap!

  • Ours is fine,
but I have put an inline stop valve in the hot supply to reduce the flow,
to prevent hot water being wasted.

  • The loft isn't over the bathroom as it's the extension at the back of the house - there's no crawl space in the ceiling - which is why I'm not 100% what to do
