Compare that to the IRA - who appear to have been a) much more efficient at being terrorists, possibly due to not being insane, and also b) therefore much more dangerous and finally c) much less likely to have been nominated by their own family as being dangerous nutters.

Nowadays every terrorist is labelled as insane, but how is that helpful in understanding the motivation? Was the Manchester bomber insane, but the Enniskillen bomber purely rational?
