Secret service intervention / military intervention came with a whole host of problems [innocent civilian deaths/collusion/backing the wrong horse as the UDA etc. weren't exactly nice people either] in the case of trying to stop IRA terrorism... I sometimes wonder if the UK has learnt its lessons from NI.
