Was there bright sunlight directly on the car? If the metering was set to spot of centre weighted then it's likely that it has exposed light on the car which is much brighter then what is around it.
I had recently changed this to centre weighted - I'll change it back to "multi" and see if it starts behaving again, thanks.
Hi - yes, that looks like centreweighting on a very bright subject. Bear in mind that spot metering on any camera is aiming for middle grey - that's why you have to dial the exposure compensation up a stop or two positive if you're shooting snow. Same effect on the shiny yellow car.
