  • Looking for a set (front and rear) of cantilever brakes. The only caveat is that they need to be comparable with very narrow brake bosses.

This means modern ones like tektro 720 are out, looking for older dia compe/shimano XT instead.

  • just a fyi that shimano cx50 / cx70 will work with narrow bosses if you replace the large brake spacers. I don't have a set to sell however

  • Have you got any experience with this? Looked at their tech doc and mine are more narrow than they recommend.

  • I've got 1 set of Altus if they are any good to you? fresh Kool stop pads on.

  • Yes, I set up a pair of CX50 on my girlfriend's old Van Tuyl cross bike. You can see them on it here https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/295582/#comment13331050

They have long washers on the brake bolts, so remove those and fit smaller ones and they are a wider spread apart than regular cantis

I'm sure it's not technically recommended, but it does work in my experience

  • I think I'll give the CX50s a shot first and see if they work, thanks though!

  • Thanks for the tip! Have ordered a set to try out.

  • I have ye olde Dia Compes nos if needed

  • they're great brakes, the pads are shit though so swap them out when you can

  • Cheers! I'll give the shimano ones a trial but will give you a shout if they're a dead end

  • I'm sure it's not technically recommended, but it does work in my experience

The CX70s come with different lengths of spacer, so actually technically recommended.

Shimano tech doc here has a table showing which spacer correlates to which rim width and boss spacing.
