  • Afternoon all.

Just been out 19km around a few hills of Edinburgh, but crashed hard after 15km and found it really difficult to get going again. My legs were tired before I even started the run, but thought a good stretch and a black coffee would sort that out.
I am now considering eating before I go out a run, something I have always avoided, but in recent weeks my pace has completely dropped off and this could be a factor.
I've been thinking of a couple of rice cakes 20 minutes to 30 minutes before a run as they're high in carbs. I run first thing in the morning and don't want to eat too much before.
Have Any of you had this problem or come up with a solution to it? What best suits you or what do you recommend?

    Cheers

  • I doubt if rice cakes will make a huge difference as they are so low in calories for their size (30-40cal each). Unless your talking about the Team Sky recipe ones.

Coffee and a slice of flapjack or two/three slices of toasted Warburton fruit loaf (92cal per slice before adding butter) is my usual for 13-18 miles at a decent pace.

Pre ultra race is normally porridge and a heap of golden syrup. Then Tailwind on the go.
