Great Northern run slow trains (90 mins), Virgin East Coast run fast ones (45-55 mins).
I don't think there are any bike spaces on GN trains but at that time in the morning they won't be busy and you won't have a problem.
Virgin require reservations at any time of day, but you can reserve online when you book your ticket.
