• After over a year of coveting I have ordered an airshot infiltrator inflator.
    Will report back with findings.
(I love gravelkings, but they are stubborn going up without tubes).

  • infiltrator

You want the air to go in fast and loud, not slow and sneaky :)

  • fix'd.
re: fast and loud though, how loud are these tubeless inflator things? Is it the kind of thing I can do post 9pm in a first floor flat?

  • how loud are these tubeless inflator things?

They're only loud if something explodes.

    Which definitely won't happen..

  • All I heard with mine was a short hiss, and then the pop of the tyre bead seating.

  • Things near me have a habit of exploding.

  • Too soon...

  • Apologies if repost.. this blog post from (renowned vendor of wide tires) Compass showed up in my feed today, quite interesting:
    https://janheine.wordpress.com/2017/05/29/the-trouble-with-road-tubeless/

tl;dr: tubeless no good at high pressure so go wide or go tubed.

I'm a bit skeptical, but then I run relatively low pressure anyway. Not too worried.

  • Has anyone had an experience of getting a bulge in a tubeless tyre? It's so pronounced it has rubbed the seat stay.

  • damn. I hoped specifically you would weigh in and say it's fine :(

  • Sounds like the tyre must be faulty

  • Either that, or there's a massive Stanimal lurking in there...

  • To be fair I've no experience with the tubeless compatible A23, and I didn't bother building the rim bed up with multiple layers of tape, so it might work.

  • Effetto mariposa is the most effe tive sealant i have tried.

Road tubelsss is easy with the right rims and tyres. Fixing them on the road is easy. Tyre worms and fkexible superglue is the key. When you reinflate use a pump and put enough pressure in to get you home. 40psi is more than enough. When at home try higher pressures and see if it holds. If it does not repair again. I have shoved a screw driver thougb an irc tyre with a 4mm shaft and the sealant tried to seal it wiggled it about then pluged and glued the hole. Tyre fixed in a minute and it held 90psi. I have fixed sidewall cuts with flexible superglue and low pressures could be held. By apply more glue every day the tyre after a week could hold high pressures. Did another 3000km on that tyre.

  • Can I haz discount for shameless plug?

  • Irc do a couple of 28mm tyres and the roadlite 25mm comes up at nearly 28mm on a wide rim. There are new models coming for 2018. There is a 32mm cx tubeless tyres one of them has littld thread. I have an order in again. No idea though on delivery or even if the order will be fulfilled in full.

  • I run my 25mm irc tyres at high pressures the trick i use tubeless tyres not normal tyres converted to tubeless. That is hit and miss and involves some faff.

Schwable have a tubeless version of the marathon supreme for wide. Two widths 35mm and 40mm.

  • Airshot inflator is a++.
Got my v stubborn Gravel Kings up no bother. 140psi and the valve core removed and they snapped in place nicely. Just the juggle to get the valve core back in can be a bit stressful...

  • I have not removed the valve core when using the Airshot.

  • Glitter aint great environmentally because it's plastic particles and that shit never goes away, whereas stock sealant is designed to degrade. Unless there is some bio-degradable glitter around? I've heard of people experimenting with coffee grinds and pepper...

I use polenta in my homebrew sealant. Seems to work so far, and Stans use what the Merkins call cornflour, which is basically the same as polenta. The principle, AIUI, is the same as having platelets in blood - the globs help seal the cut and allow the clotting agent to form around them.

  • I find removing the valve core is unnecessary when using a 150 litre compressor at 120psi. Perhaps unsurprisingly.

  • Are you trying to one-up my small blue cylinder?

  • I challenge you to do this with your 150 litre compressor:
