Chain tensioner with a fixed?

Posted on
  • Tempted to get a fixed after enjoying some singlespeed road riding but want to try it first. If I use a DMR roller style tensioner which is fixed in place rather than being spring loaded, can I set up my current bike fixed using a disc mount cog. I can't see why not but google tells me I shouldn't albeit there is no explanation as to why not. Thanks in advance.

  • No, do not. Fixed requires "drive" in both directions. You cannot do this with a chain tensioner.

  • Magic gear, eccentric BB/hub, horizontal/semi-horizontal drops outs or track ends are your only options for fixed.

  • Ok, thanks.

  • ghost cog is an option too
