Awesome. I used to have one of these at uni (till it was nicked in a break-in). Mine was an ampex or something i think. It was valve powered and had built in speakers and you could overdrive the input to geat a great saturated guitar sound on tape. I paid £5 for it out the back of the local paper. Maybe they're worth more now... not sure. If the price changes dramatically i'd be interested.

Well I'm open to offers but I think it's worth more than a fiver, at least for now!

I think you're right. Would love it but can't really justify spending any real money on it... *sigh

A tenner then? That's barely real in this day and age ;-)

I bought mine brand new about 1964 at Dawson's of Burnley. It was absolute rubbish and one needed to be a full time mechanic to keep it running. Aluminium spools on steel spindles kept coming loose because of differential expansion, a dodgy microphone with lots of hum and tape heads with lots of wear on them. When I took it back to the shop to say there was too much wow they said it sounded alright to them. Bye-bye Dawson's.

7 years!
I find it fascinating that these silicon that still store this data nowadays is now encoding the current of my very own monitor that was still sand until a couple of months ago.

The Magnavox represented a sizable investment in 1964 for the wages in those days. One ought to have been able to look back on something worthwhile for the money. However that was not the case: it could be summed up as a good looking pile of rubbish.
That's about as much as I can tell you about it, was my father's and I've lugged it from place to place but have neither space nor use for it tho' it is a fine ornament and conversation piece. When last turned on things light up and go round. Not, err, state of the art any more... maybe just art!
