Sounds like a great frame. Just make sure they paint it properly as in years gone by there have been many, many on here who've been let down by BJ's paintwork.
What are your plans for the group, wheels, finishing kit?

@edmundro thanks for the reply. I need to keep doing a fair bit more research, but i currently like the idea of running it with an 11 speed cassette at the back and a single up front. I've only had the option of riding my single speed for the last few years... all these gears daunt me!
the range on this is pretty big https://www.sram.com/sram/road/products/pg-1130-11-42t-cassette
any advice greatly received!

Large range cassettes are great but can leave you wanting gears in the middle sometimes since the ratios are further apart.

My tourer has a mtb triple. Dorky as fuck but no regrets at all. It never fails to find the gear I want.
My off-road tourer/prolly whip will be 1x11 tho.Don't think I'd go 1x on a long distance bike just in case. You can always just not use the other chainring but you'll be bummed out if it's not there when you need it.
Obvs there'll now be tons of other conflicting advice inc from those on here who tour fixed.

Interesting - didn't know they did disc mounts! Given their general crusty old-school vibe I'd assumed it wasn't something they were happy to offer.

added a parts list that, still lots of blanks. Unsure on the wheelset as well...

No pump pip
you're riding audax, I don't understand?
-
• #9
Audax wheels = 105 hubs on Open Pro rims I think. Not very exciting tho...
EDIT: forgot it was disc
-
• #10
Dont go for Aksium... For the same price range you can afford a lighter Dt 460 db with decent hubs and even dynamo
-
• #11
I'd second this. Standard spoked wheels over Mavic's anyday.

in agreement about the wheels, they were definitely a bad staring point. Looking at the DT 460 DB option. These look rather nice indeed:

currently out of stock everywhere I can find them though :(

So today I'm pondering crankset options. The first question I need to answer is whether my range of choices is limited by the sram 11 speed chain being narrower?

Dude keep the pump peg!
Take a frame pump on your tour and you'll thank me later. -
• #15
Bike24 have a pretty big stock of those

@AlfredIV Bike24 had a crazy number of wheels! thanks. in the end i went with the DT Swiss R460 DB Disc Rims with Shimano RS505 Disc Hubs. SJS had the bits to build them when i rang. so they should be with me next week.
Bob Jackson inform me my frame is being painted, so should be with me next week!
Best start ordering things pronto!

Potential build of the year in my book. As much as I've enjoyed all the modern steel builds of late on here I'm really really looking forward to seeing this built up.
Pls don't fk it up x

This. Awesome stuff.

+1 for the 1x, very happy with my 38t chainring and that SRAM cassette. Spins out about 35mph but I shouldn't be overtaking cars on a descent like a mad bastard while loaded with crap anyway :) If you get the whole group it comes with a 42t on the front. I didn't have any issues with gaps in the range on a hilly two day trip recently (compared to my other bike with a 11-32t 10sp rear).

Looks amazing. (Did chuckle to myself at panto on seat stay)

Potential build of the year
Wow you have really turned the pressure up to 11 there!
So bits have been arriving, all thats left to order is the seatpost and seat.... if only i knew what size post i needed
-
• #25
More than likely gonna be a 27.2. Phone BJs or take to a bike shop and ask em to check with spares box posts.
I was in need of a bike to get me to from Bristol to Paris in July. Seemed like a good excuse to buy a bike I have been lusting after for a long time. So after a lot of discussion with the guys at Bob Jackson i settled on the following off the peg frameset with a twist:
Frame - Audax end to end.
Size - 23”
Colour - Metallic Grigio
Colour of Transfers – White
Lug Lining – Black
Tubing Upgrades - Reynolds 631 Fork Blades, Reynolds 725 Rear Stays
Front and Rear Disc Mounts (rear inside chain and seat stay)
No pump pip.
So now for the fun bit of finding all the parts and building it. I'm expecting the frame mid June.
