  • @Pifko why you on this thread? get off and go on TT thread

  • Hey, I'm still running...If you call 9:30min/mi pace running?

  • If you call 9:30min/mi pace running?

Was out at 10.30min/mi on tonight's social run (no headtorches). If you're running it's running yeah?

  • It's a solid pace for a hundy.

  • clams, hip adductor stretch, seated & lying glute stretches, tensor fascia latae, single leg balancing on wobble board with running motions & side step with squats with band.

i've done them once, now feel ok again so i'll run to oblivion again. i think it was around 2000 miles since my last injury

  • Hope so. One week to go.

  • Kit check, loops on my compressor pod have frayed after occasional use < 6 months old. Doubt they'd last for 24hrs now.

    Annoying.

  • I just binge read the last 2.5 months of posts in this thread (I can't access lfgss without a VPN...). Well done to everyone who's raced (which is a lot of you!), good luck to anyone with races coming up and get well soon to the injured.

Here in Shanghai it's 34 degrees and not yet summer. My local park is minutes from our house and has a 630m running track. The air is really not that bad, there's only been 1 day in the time I've been here when I've chosen not to run because of the air quality. I'm thinking of signing up for the Shanghai marathon in November.

Running is definitely becoming more popular in China but it's nothing like the UK - I miss seeing people run all over the city at all hours. Then again, the rules of the road here are... well, I haven't got a clue, I'm not convinced there are rules, I got hit by a motorbike a few weeks ago - on the pavement.

  • ^ sounds ace, except moto collision. Stay safe!

  • Double BGR by Spine winner on lap 2 today. Lap 1 <23hrs http://live.opentracking.co.uk/x2bg2017/

  • ^ abandoned sick at 29hrs, unfortunate.

Taper wouldn't be a Taper without rancid fly bite. Developing nastily since Thursday night.

A few of you who did EfM or followed it may recall Alan Cormack. We ran together on my first marathon and he introduced me to ultra running. Little did I know then quite how much of a dafty he really is.

Last years race ended on day four and so far, the 615 mile run hasn't been completed. Alan and Chris are on day 8 of an expected 14!

  • That looks rank. Hope it clears.

  • Opposite end of the spectrum for me today: the Westminster mile.

Despite not running a lot for a few weeks I managed 5.17. And got a sore throat and a bit of a cough straight afterwards. Weird

  • Feels sore but runnable, should fade if i don't scratch it. Something else got my arm within 30s slvless before run this evening, hazard of living near a dank pond.

  • Charlie Sharpe is runing EfM, he did a sub14 100 miles today as taper. Speechless.

  • Went down to Hornchurch park where the spitfire scramble is taking place and started my training properly yesterday. spent 6 hours on my feet and managed 3 laps of the course covering 19 miles walking with about 30 minutes of stoppages along the way (mostly 5 minute stopgaps to re-apply sunscreen, have a quick water break and enjoy the scenery). my target is 11 laps so only just over 25% of the goal covered so far but hoping to work up to getting in 8 laps (4 a day) over two days within next 5 weeks and hoping I can grit out the final 3 on the day.

legs were definitely feeling a bit sore but for the first time since I started training for this a few weeks back I managed to avoid any hotspots or blisters thanks to the new roclites and some hapla-band tape to tape my two outside toes on each foot and then a liberal application of anti-friction powder in some injinji toe socks to feet the little piggies separated.

I also have some tincture of benzoin arriving today which should further help keep the taping in place (it's pretty interesting stuff if you've not heard of it being used for distance running, acts as an adhesive keeping tape/plasters in place, is antiseptic, toughens skin). race plan is to tape the night before so I'm ready to go on race day and have a chance to identify any poor application errors before I get started.

Still need to try and disconnect my brain from thinking of miles covered at running paces as it really kills the sense of achievement when you've covered this huge distance and spent hours on your feet only to be thinking 'well if i'd run it, it would have only taken me x no of hours'. it might be less impressive in terms of speed but if I decide to tackle some ultras next year after my marathon this is good practice for learning how to stay on my feet for an extended period of time.

next saturday am planning on getting up super early and getting 4 laps in (25 miles incl. to/from station). I could find some more enjoyable a to b routes to do but I think given the amount of time i'll be spending on this course some mental toughening will help with tackling it on race day, especially as I find running a loop feels a bit shorter the more you run it and have it memorised.

  • @HatBeard if you want tape to really sticky, thoroughly degrease the skin before applying the Benzoin and tape.
    Alcohol wipes 😀

  • have a big box of 100 sterile wipes on hand too. :)

  • 😀 so long as they're not ones with added Aloe Vera.

Round off the corners on your tape, as that helps prevent the corners lifting. Be careful putting on your socks so you don't roll an edge of the tape. Well prepped, it can last a couple of days.

  • Wow. Benzoin really is sticky. Had to decant it into a spray bottle as it just came in a big bottle and hands felt like I'd covered them in superglue after.

Had seen about rounding the tape so on that already.

  • Afternoon all.

Just been out 19km around a few hills of Edinburgh, but crashed hard after 15km and found it really difficult to get going again. My legs were tired before I even started the run, but thought a good stretch and a black coffee would sort that out.
I am now considering eating before I go out a run, something I have always avoided, but in recent weeks my pace has completely dropped off and this could be a factor.
I've been thinking of a couple of rice cakes 20 minutes to 30 minutes before a run as they're high in carbs. I run first thing in the morning and don't want to eat too much before.
Have Any of you had this problem or come up with a solution to it? What best suits you or what do you recommend?

    Cheers

  • Take a couple of gels with you?

If water is available I'll carry a couple of normal gels with me. If I don't have anything to carry water (because it's not going to be warm/hot) then I'll use High5 Isogels which have extra water in them to make them isotonic.

I can get through anything up to an HM on an empty stomach but that's generally flat stuff.

  • A few nuts and grapes will get you through.

  • Yeh I've been up to 25km on an empty stomach, but the last few weeks have been off. Not sure what's going on. Its as if my legs are done before I've started running.
