  • I've done this recently on an old MTB. getting the right bolt lengths and spacers etc is the tricky bit, the p-clips themselves are pretty easy.

  • Been there with the beater. Struts were initially held on with zip-ties and even those were alright, but p-clamps are dead solid.

    10/10 would p-clamp again.

In other news, VO hammered fenders fitted to the NatureBoy. Royal fucking pain to set up proper but worth the effort 10fold, save for plenty of swearing.

  • Thanks, y'all.

  • I think they're just about the most evenly set-up mudguards I've ever seen

  • Out of interest, with the first set up, what do you do when dealing with a puncture, do you need to undo the mudguard bolts when removing the wheel?

  • Anyone know, what this type of bracket is called?

  • It's a p-clip.

  • @alialias Lots of tender loving affection and plenty of swearing required.

@Hovis both setups if I end up with a flat there's enough space to remove the wheel with the tire mostly deflated. Easy to deal with if I do flat, PITA if I wanna do some maintenance.

  • As the surly undergoes the transformation away from super practical road bike, the actual road bike needs to be made wet-weather friendly.
Just bought a pair of these:
    https://www.radialcycles.co.uk/radial-avert-pro-mudguards-1.html

At £18 (10% off with code RADIAL10) they seem like ridiculously good value. Will report back.

  • Will report back.

Please do, they look great. Did you get the narrow or wide ones?

  • I went for 30mm, gonna be trying to squeeze them over some 28s so I could be in for a challenge

  • I've just bought the 37mm to go over 28mm tyres, so I guess we'll see who wins.

Currently have 30mm PDW over the 28s and it's pretty good, but I'd quite to catch all the water. Aluminium can be drilled as easily as steel, right? I'll probably want some flaps on these guys too.

  • Just bought a set of the 30s as well. They look good and seem to have a good rep on their website so fingers crossed!

  • Should be way easier to drill than steel.

  • ridiculously good value

Couldn't resist, ordered a pair as well. Need to functionalize my fixed commuter, cleaned it after winter a whila ago and had to scrape gunk off with a knife before I could start scrubbing it :)

  • do these come with fixings to attach to bikes without mudguard mounts? I'm looking for something skinny to fit to a caad12.

These have been fine for me for about the same price. Front is a bit harder to get even with only one stay

  • Coverage looks dreadful!?

  • Nope, I'm sure you could fashion something though. Pclips?

Have just received these tonight, first impressions are good, they're really solid

  • Yes they're not long at all but fuck everyone else, I'll stay dry

  • fuck everyone else

  • Might put off some of the fluoronodders from riding so closely that they endanger your bike.

  • Never understood the long rear flap thing for that reason. I get that its polite to people behind you but in the rain, why are they riding close enough to your rear wheel that they're getting sprayed?

  • Trust me rear spray can travel several meters before it hits you in your face
