  • In addition to this, the running of the KCA 12 is still undecided, I believe a decision is to be made this weekend.

  • but I understand the Newbury event may have trouble with the HQ - new management don't want to open up early

I think @rach_e has already said that this is the reason for the change of HQ compared with previous years.

  • Yep, the Newbury. Have roped my Dad in to help as my partner is conveniently away.

Will likely bring spare fixed rear wheel and road bike.

  • they are running their evening races as opens this year so at least its not a lottery as to whether you'll get a ride, but I agree, the two hours to get there for me is a no go!

  • Only a 14 mile cycle for me - might even ride down.

  • On the Newbury 12, I believe Rachael Elliott is still short of marshalls. I've done it for the past 2 years and it really is more enjoyable than standing by the side of the road for a few hours sounds - if you're free do consider giving up your time.

  • what are the hive minds thoughts on calf guard/trip socks (other than they make you lok like a triathlete and remove that excuse for shaving ones legs), are the endura ones or no pinz ones significantly faster than each other?

  • You still have to shave your knees though...

  • Embrace the razorblade

  • also remember seeing some chat about the finish of f11/10, for which im currently trying to buy speed for, and the start sheet is just confusing, so can someone tell me in simple words what I need to do at the finish, is it just go dow the slip road at the earliest possible moment?

  • yup - exactly, enter the slip road as soon as possible. The problem was with riders cutting across at the last moment (in front of cars) iirc, so they put that in to ensure that it didn't happen again.

  • Aerostripe are a very similar construction to the D2Z ones

  • I don't even see why anyone would do this - what is there to gain from staying in the carriageway and cutting across (as I accidentally did in my cold-addled state) other than avoiding cats' eyes - or is that it?

  • Does that literally mean that all things being equal, you'd save 16 seconds just from socks and overshoes?

  • A little bit more potential traffic-assistance?

  • At 45kph, yes.

You'd probably save as much as that from the right tyre on a Hed 3 ;)

  • Oh yeah, good point.

I'm just bitter because I cocked it up and got DNF when it should have been pretty clear I was just an idiot, not a cheat or a danger to anyone (even myself, despite my idiocy). I thought they might be more lenient.

  • Traffic assist, but aren't you riding further and what about losses from sharp turns?

  • The latest pic didn't load did it...there's now a 20mm Supersonic on there thanks to @onyerbike

Maybe that's where those 9 (!) minutes off my 25 mile PB came from on Sunday.

  • A 9 minute PB? What did they time you with before, a calendar?

  • The previous PB was in my first ever time trial. It was windy, I was over-geared for a big drag and I wasn't comfortable enough to use the extensions for a lot of the time, did 1:07

Second 25, started 39 minutes late, arm rests slipped so I couldn't use extensions, did 1:07 again but officially 1:46

Third 25, all good, just under 58:00

  • That's an impressive improvement.

  • Thanks. I've done quite a few 10s in between the second and third 25s, and I've got faster each time. I think I've got more comfortable riding in an aero position and better at maintaining power, and adjusted my gearing for the last one too which mean the downhill sections were a lot more efficient. Also, forgot to mention that the second 25 was on 71" for a medium gear event!
