Could anyone suggest a good route from London (Wandsworth/Putney) to Winchester? Haven't found much on strava.

Thanks for the route, i did this in reverse as the ride to hastings was pretty much the a22....i went through the gravel section no problems...at lamberhurst took the a21 instead - more direct in my thinking....well it was horrible as the night fell, got a puncture coming off the A21 to go into sevenoaks...and was pretty much not going to repair it.

Has anyone ridden from Bristol to the New Forest? Or vice versa? I'm looking to do it in July and fancy doing as much as possible off-tarmac if possible. Nothing too rough as I'll be on a gravel bike with a couple bags mounted.
The rough plan is to follow cycle route 24 unless anyone knows any complete routes that are better? Or if anyone has sections they know about that I can divert off route 24 that would be great, too.

I'm planning to ride to Bedford from London in a few weeks, anyone got any tips or pointers?

On Saturday I'm visiting friends near Oxford and have planned this route. Can anyone see any issues with it? The only bit that might be a ballache, apart from all the rolling hills, is going through St Albans, but any diversion is going to add quite a lot in. Does anyone who knows the area have any advice?

I have this rough route planned for July. If anyone knows parts of the route and can offer suggestions for alternatives/reasons to avoid parts/pub recommendations/there be dragons etc I would appreciate it. I'll be very lightly loaded and have gravel king knobblies on the bike so I'm not scared of a bit of gravel.

Anyone got any good routes in Essex (25-50miles)? Coastal preferred!

@giofox88 I know this is a crazy old post but I'd go for this route - you don't have to go all the way to St Margaret's Bay. Tbh this is the way to get to Dover http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6029489

Thanks! I think I snatched this route off someone already (or found it on RWGPS). Looks hilly :)
-
• #636
It is! But not unreasonably so. I would suggest gears for more fun but certainly doable fgss

• #638
O I C. Yeah that's a big first day considering. What you have already might be better even if less scenic considering your going to ITALY

Had a quick look through here and was wondering if anyone has a paved, scenic/quieter route from London to Southend? Cheers.

I rode this last weekend and I think it's as country as it gets (and paved) to Sarf End

Just what I was looking for, cheers!

Did you get a train back?
-
• #643
Indeed, after some fish and chips! £11.00

Cool, was just checking to see it it was ok to bring the bike on the train. Thanks again.

Anyone have a good London-Bristol route?
Never done anything out west really and all the routes on Strava seem to have a 30/40 mile stretch on the A4. Not my cup of tea to be honest.

thames to reading, kennet and avon to bristol. 100% off road and manageable on 28s or wider.
-
• #647
Cheers, but would actually have to be on road. Don't have a suitable bike for off-road action at the mo.

I came here looking for exactly something like this (after doing a bit of a off-road route on Friday that has left me a bit uncomfortable when sitting - although it was fun checking out the urban wasteland that is the Rainham marshes). Cheers! Will give it a go this week.
This is a super open question, but anyone have suggestions for rides out of (East) London to places where I can get a train back to East London (Stratford? Or a stop that hits the overground [Barking?]), which follows, generally, quiet country lanes? Distance can be short or longish (100k).

The A4 west of Newbury is pretty quiet, I've happily ridden for miles along it.

Ahh. I'll have to have a street view recce. Thanks for the info

I rode this last year. The first bit on the a2 wasn't bad, but then it was fairly early in the morning
