  • They should be able to just refund you. If they play silly fuckers then onto the card provider.

  • Yep, that's how I'll proceed. I'm flying to the US in a few days though so I don't want them to fanny about.

  • Please can someone advise what the correct length of bottom bracket is for this 9spd Chorus chainset? (not sure whether it needs 102mm or the longer one)

    Thanks

  • Yes, 102mm.

All C-Record era road doubles use 111mm.

From 1995 (when they started putting the groupset name on components) Record and Chorus require 102mm, all others remained 111mm.

  • Awesome, thanks dude!

  • Any MIG welders on here, particularly if you've done level two?

  • Ta, missed that somehow - will have a hunt for a tub of that Shell stuff then!

  • At first I was like, "You weld Ti? Cool!".

    Then I was like, ba-doom-tish...

    :)

  • Apologies, tough day, feeling frivolous now an over physical task completed.

The closest I get to welding is wearing Toolstation welders' gauntlets for hand/wrist protection on conservation tasks.

  • Hello all.

I received Argos vouchers as a gift for my birthday. I figured I would put them toward a digital radio.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to which DAB to go for? There are hundred to pick from, don't know where to start.

  • 50 pound ish

  • No not at all, your joke was well received!

Clearly I need to brush-up on mine.

    :)

  • Before I permanently and irreparably alter the soles on these, am I missing something?

The holes are correctly spaced and thread SPD-SL/Look cleat bolts no problem, but there's that great big recess there. It's like an old clip shape, so I guess that was the original idea.

I can't find this old model online to see catalogue pictures...
Opinion #1: it originally came with a blanking plate, and you must use extra long cleat bolts.
Opinion #2: You need to sand down the area to make a flush surface to use a cleat.

Thinking to go get on the machine and do a #2 (.../pun)

  • Opinion #1: it originally came with a blanking plate

An adapter plate rather than a blanking plate. Carnac were big in the era when the cleat bolt pattern was still up for grabs, and they loved adapter plates so much that they made over 8000 different variants. Good luck finding the right one now.

  • Mmm yea, I suppose that was the easiest way to go between clips and clipless on the same shoe. Agreed it will not be easy to find original adapters. Totally don't want to permanently mod the shoes, I guess I'll make some adapter plates and look for long bolts.

  • Stopped at lights the other day, got given a TFL Survey card. Have entered the tinyurl link but can't get it to work.

Is it me or is there something up with the link ? Anybody had one of these ? Got the link to work ?

  • Go old school and just put a heavy oil in there instead of grease.
It'll be messier but smoother and easy to refill if you drill the hub.

  • I reckon that the mono ones with one big speaker are better than the stereo ones with a couple of speakers right next to each other. Much better sound quality.

Not sure what is in that price range but I'd be looking at Pure or Roberts.

  • If you can stretch to it I recommend the Pure Evoke H2 - I do have the previous model D2 and it's been the best of the bunch in sound by far (got a motley selection of DAB radios around the house).

  • John Lewis has a few budget DAB clock-radios, portable radios and personal radios:
    https://www.johnlewis.com/browse/electricals/hi-fi-audio-speakers/hi-fi-audio-speakers/radios/dab/price=min-60/_/N-5ajxZ1z1400f/Nf-pRleZ60?Ns=p_price.extravaganzaPriceListId|0

£40 will get you a Roberts Play 10 portable or a Pure Siesta Mi series 2 bedside clock-radio.

Ideally, you want one that supports DAB+, since that's a more bandwidth-efficient and plain old DAB chips can't grok DAB+. Broadcasters can pack DAB and DAB+ into the same channels though, so it's unlikely they'll drop plain DAB for existing broadcasts but new stations might be DAB+ only, especially if they're on a tight budget for spectrum.

Richer Sounds' cheapest DAB receiver is £100. Sleek and black though.

  • Thanks for all the feedback.
I reckon a bedside one would be best, and I only really listen to radio 4 anyway, so not sure if a DAB+ is necessary.

  • Recommendations for a 1 1/8 semi-integrated headset?

I removed the bearings from my headset and they have no markings so can't order replacements.

EDIT 2 - Some more googling seems to show I need 30.2x41x6.5mm 45°x45° bearings, but I can't find these for sale in the UK.

What would happen if I used 30.2x41x6.5mm 36°x45° bearings?

EDIT 3 - the Ritchey Pro Logic ZS headset uses the TK-410 bearing (45x45 deg 30.15x41x7mm).

  • 57cm Kinesis 4S Disc - can I run 160mm rotor on the back? Basically it appears to fit so I don't know why Kinesis say "NOTE: It is best recommended that you run a 140mm rear rotor."

Is that just because smaller frames have fit issues?
