  • Yeah they're a varno special. I requested two cross on both wheels but got radial instead, then firmly ignored when I tried to get it resolved. I'll move them on when I find the right wheels, which ideally should be silver I think

  • Sorry to hear that and also sorry to rub salt in the wound.

Silver wheel set would look great.

Still, absolutely smashing frame - you should be thankful to have found it.

  • 9 speed chains are only a little narrower internally

No, they have shorter pins than 7-speed chain too, by over 1mm.

There has been a steady progression in pin length, but only one jump in roller width which was at the 8 to 9 speed transition. The first "narrow" chain was Ultra6, used to squeeze 6 sprockets into the space previously allocated to 5 on 120mm hubs, followed by Ultra7 using the same chain fit 7 sprockets on 126mm "6-speed" hubs, and each successive increase in number of sprockets has required a further narrowing of the pin length.

  • Nah I'm over it. As much as it pissed me off at the time. May get it relaced at my lbs.
I'm more than chuffed with the frame, finally accepted that I ride 58cm frames (5'11 and long limbed) after riding 55s for years so there was some worry whilst building but it's mega smooth. I have a similar era 58cm holdsworth that's built with gears so is a nice companion also.
    Cheers!

  • If I buy and use this £10 China carbon seat post will I die? I weigh about 65kg but ride the bike it'd be for a lot if that makes any difference.

  • will I die?

Yes, but we have no way of knowing the timing or cause.

  • Switched the carbon forks out for steel on my Genesis along with a Chris Ching headset

  • Looks great - how does it ride?

  • Haven't spent more than ten minutes on it yet but so far it's comfortable, I'm properly unfit after an extended sickness but looking forward to commuting tomorrow.

  • What's that fork? I'm looking for one just like that that will fit a mudguard.

  • new hoods to replace the floppy original ones

Where did you get new hoods, and did it help? Mine are floppy too

  • Allegedly they used the wrong rubber on early ones which caused them to deteriorate faster than they should - both mine got so baggy they span around the lever when you shifted. Can't remember the part number but you just need the shimano replacements. Mine have done about 1500 miles so far and doing much better than the first pair.

  • Came with the frame mate but it's a prototype so they may never have made it though I don't know much about Genesis

  • This frame is really tidy. Got a full build pic?

  • gluing or rimtaping tubs, what path should I take?

  • It's a bit rough unfortunately but seems like decent quality. Will take 32s front and back.
I'll try and get a picture soon. Got guards to fit tomorrow.
Does have the Ritchey dropouts that I've seen on the Volare etc which is a nice touch

  • gluing or rimtaping

Glue for racing, tape for posing

  • MK1

Heavy than I'd like but you can sit on it. Soma is 1.2kg this is 1.9kg not too bad really.
