  • Come on Corbyn - get in there !

  • Old news , but I hadn't seen it before.

Given how worked up the Tory's get about Corby / Mcdonald talking to the IRA this is interesting.

  • I reckon she's got about 9 more days before she's no longer flavour of the month.

  • it's almost as if the tory party don't want to win this election... or that they think there's no way they can lose.

sadly they're probably right on that score. turkeys are gonna vote for christmas regardless.

  • just got this in my electro-letterz:

Greenheck, the Tories' dementia tax is unravelling before us — their own ministers won't even defend it and now Theresa May is desperately trying to backpedal on a manifesto she launched only four days ago.

Because they can't defend the indefensible, the Tories have bought ads to make sure that when anyone Googles dementia tax, they get spin rather than the truth.

So we're crowdfunding our own advert to take them on. The Tories have the super-rich — but we have you. Please chip in right now.

    I'll chip in £1
    I'll chip in £10
    I'll chip in £20
    I'll chip in another amount

Theresa May has thrown her own election campaign into chaos and confusion. She is unable to stick to her own manifesto for more than four days. And by failing to put a figure for a cap on social care costs, she has only added to the uncertainty for millions of older people and their families. This is weak and unstable leadership.

Theresa May and the Conservatives won't stand up for pensioners or working people, their only concern is their billionaire friends. Labour is proud to stand up for the many, not the few. So please Greenheck, let's stand up and be counted today.

    Thanks,
    The Labour Party

  • Would it be wrong for everyone to click on the tory ad and at least cost them some money to spread their lies...

  • Why would you trust a barren pensioner with your future?

  • Googling 'Dementia tax' gives me:

The Tories Have Failed To Tackle The Social Care Crisis

  • This is even more amazing, if right...

This election has suddenly got a lot more interesting.

  • I still dont see the tory's not winning sadly.

  • I can't see that being the national trend. But May's support is falling off rapidly.

  • I don't know the numbers, where would the polls have to sit % wise for her to be worse off than she is now, seats wise? That would be fuckin' hilarious.

  • On the 2015 results it would only have taken +/- 30,000 vores in marginals to wipe out CallmeDave's shortlived majority.
But that if course was pre-Corbyn & pre-brexhit.

  • I don't mean the tories not winning, I can't see that happening. I just mean her ending up with at least one seat less than she has now.

  • To me the idea of getting those owning a home to pay for social care after death through the money from their home seems like a not to0 evil policy, though i'm sure pensioners don't see it that way. Ironic it comes from a party which massively upped the inheritance tax limit and got it to ignore some homes.

  • I quite like the idea of a flooded housing market, pushing down prices for everyone, but I have a distinct feeling it wouldn't work out in our favour. The govt may compulsory purchase for pittance then sell on for profit or something. Also taking the choice away from every family with what they would do the the house, sell on, rent out, move in etc.

  • Friend of Liz's made this comparison to May today. Seems about right.

  • I'd be delighted if I'd have a 100K to leave my son...

Also isn't this going to level the playing field somewhat by limited huge inheritance from house sales?

Though is it fair you need to pay for health care yourself is then the other discussion, but then taxes may need to go up across the board.

  • You're right. You can't take it with you after all. It's an utterly reasonable and sensible policy. It's also progressive, in that it targets those who have the means to pay. But it's also unconservative. It says a lot about May's judgement that she let it into the manifesto.

I'm absolutely sure that the drop in the polls since the story blew up is ageing Tory voters - a very important Tory demographic - switching allegiance because they realise that the party isn't on their side after all.

Meanwhile some of Labour's current policies (such as non-means tested abolition of tuition fees) will directly benefit the rich. Can't help feeling there's a delicious irony in all of this...

  • Even if Labour don't win, and I still doubt they will, you have to admire how they've campaigned - closing the lead in the polls so much from where they were when the election was called, despite some of the party's own MPs conceding defeat already and despite the massive splits in the build up. Though a lot of that is down to May's lack of policy and soul, I think it's been a good campaign as well - the polls started closing when people started actually discussing policy, and if the Tories now start on the personal attacks, like they seem to have with this IRA turd that should have flushed long ago, it's another sign that the Tories know they've lost the argument, even if they do win the election.

  • Means testing cost money, it may be cheaper to just let everyone get educated for free.
