Potentially something like that yes. I'd want to countersink my existing piece so it sits flush though. I'm also more interested in a look type design than my one that broke, it seems like it will be safer because the pressure on the seatpost is more spread out, rather than mine which could create stress risers(?). I also wouldnt feel comfortable using a carbon post with the current design
Could you use a standard seatpost binder bolt in the original expanding wedge? would be neater that a standard nut and bolt.
